Thus. Outside of this fourth mendicant, there are no mendicants or Brahmins. Those mendicants and Brahmins who are opponents are empty. Thus, I truly proclaim the lion's roar to all the retinues. After explaining this category of Dharma, the wandering mendicant Good Virtue and others all obtained the Dharma-eye, free from dust and defilement. Thereafter, the wandering mendicant Good Virtue saw the Dharma, attained the Dharma, realized the Dharma, and reached the depths of the Dharma, transcending hesitation, transcending doubt, not being led by others, not being persuaded by others, and after obtaining fearlessness in the Dharmas taught by the Teacher, rose from his seat, arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, and, facing the direction where the venerable Ānanda was, reverently joined his palms and said to the venerable Ānanda: "Venerable one, the venerable Ānanda has indeed obtained well, for although the venerable Ānanda was empowered by the great Teacher, I also have gone forth and taken full ordination in the well-spoken Vinaya, and have obtained the nature of a mendicant. May I also obtain well." Thereafter, the venerable Ānanda said to the Blessed One: "Venerable one, if this wandering mendicant Good Virtue were to go forth and take full ordination in the well-spoken Vinaya, and obtain the nature of a mendicant, if the Blessed One would show compassion, please allow him to go forth and take full ordination." Thereafter, the Blessed One said to the wandering mendicant Good Virtue: "Come, Good Virtue, practice the Brahmacarya." That venerable one then went forth and took full ordination, becoming the nature of a mendicant. Thus, after he went forth, that venerable one dwelt in solitude, caution, diligence, and austerity. He dwelt in solitude, caution, diligence, and austerity, for which reason sons of good families shave their hair and beards, don the ochre robes, and, with faith alone, go forth from home to homelessness, in order to accomplish the unsurpassed Brahmacarya.

Having mastered this Dharma, having realized it directly with my own perception and practiced it, my birth is exhausted. I have relied on pure conduct. What needed to be done has been done. There is no other existence beyond this.' After proclaiming thus, that venerable one's mind was well liberated and became an Arhat endowed with all knowledge. Then, the venerable Bhadra obtained the Arhatship, constantly experiencing the joy and bliss of liberation, and he thought to himself: 'It is not my place to watch the Teacher pass into complete Nirvana; in any case, I should be the first to pass into complete Nirvana.' After thinking thus, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having gone, he bowed to the Blessed One's two feet with his head and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, the venerable Bhadra said this to the Blessed One: 'Venerable One, I have attained my goal and wish to pass into complete Nirvana.' After he had said this, the Blessed One said this to the venerable Bhadra: 'Bhadra, do you speak for the sake of passing into Nirvana?' 'Blessed One, it is for the sake of passing into Nirvana.' 'Bhadra, do you speak for the sake of passing into Nirvana?' 'Sugata, it is for the sake of passing into Nirvana.' 'Bhadra, if you speak for the sake of passing into Nirvana, what should I say? This is the nature of all compounded things.' Then, the venerable Bhadra thought: 'I shall bless five places and then pass into Nirvana.' 'May we, the practitioners of pure conduct, see those who have shaved their hair and wear robes, and may the non-Buddhists see those who hold the banners of non-Buddhists. May the non-Buddhists not be able to lift my relics, but may the practitioners of pure conduct be able to lift them. After conjuring up a pond, he thought: 'In this way, may the non-Buddhists sink into the pond and not be able to enjoy it, but may the practitioners of pure conduct be able to enjoy it.

May they not be able to cause harm! May those heretics not be able to cremate me, not be able to light the fire! May those who practice Brahmacharya be able to light the fire! Having thus blessed these five places, he completely passed into Nirvana in the realm of Nirvana without remainder. Other wandering ascetics, upon hearing that the wandering ascetic Rabzang had passed into Nirvana, erected a large cloth banner and paraded it through the main roads, courtyards, crossroads, and intersections of the city of Trachen (Rajagriha), proclaiming: "The wise ascetic Gautama is the first ascetic! This is the second! This is the third! Outside of this fourth, there is no ascetic or Brahmin, the opposing ascetics and Brahmins are empty!" Thus, they roared a lion's roar to the assembly. They said, "Our practitioner of Brahmacharya, the wandering ascetic Rabzang, has passed into Nirvana!" The monks said to them, "Wise ones, if this is your practitioner of Brahmacharya, come, put him on a stretcher and carry him to see!" They placed the body on the stretcher and began to lift it, but they could not even move it. The monks said, "Wise ones, shall we lift it? Lift it!" They lifted it, and those people were speechless and remained silent in shame. They fell into a pond. Again, the monks said, "Wise ones, if this is your practitioner of Brahmacharya, come, enter the pond and see!" When they entered, they sank, were harmed by fish and turtles, and unable to move, they quickly fled out. The monks said, "Let us enter and see!" They entered and did not sink, and the fish and turtles could not harm them, and they were able to move freely there. Those people were speechless and remained silent in shame. Furthermore, the monks said, "Wise ones, if this is your practitioner of Brahmacharya
