Ajatasattu and those who expel each other became discordant with each other, and so he spoke these words to those retinues: "I will destroy the prosperity, flourishing, happiness, good harvests, people, and places filled with many people of those who expel each other. I will turn them into ashes. I will utterly destroy them in an improper way." Then, the son of the embodied one, King Ajatasattu of the country of Magadha, said this to the Brahmin Summer Maker, who belonged to the great dignitaries of the country of Magadha: "Summer Maker, come here. Go to where the Blessed One is, and after going, with my words, bow your head to the Blessed One, and ask if he has little trouble, if he has no fear, if his movements are light, if he is comfortable, if he dwells in contact with strength and happiness, if he has no faults, and report this: 'Venerable one, the son of the embodied one, King Ajatasattu of the country of Magadha, and those who expel each other have become discordant with each other, and so he reports this to the retinues, saying, "I will destroy the prosperity, flourishing, happiness, good harvests, people, and places filled with many people of those who expel each other. I will turn them into ashes. I will utterly destroy them in an improper way." If he reports this, what will the Blessed One bestow? Please remember the Blessed One's prophecy as it is. Summer Maker, why is that? Because the Tathagatas, Arhats, perfectly complete Buddhas do not speak falsely.'" After speaking, the Brahmin Summer Maker, who belonged to the great dignitaries of the country of Magadha, listened to the command of the son of the embodied one, King Ajatasattu of the country of Magadha, as if it were a divine decree, and entered a chariot that was entirely white and matched with a mare, holding a golden water pot and a vessel filled with balls, and departed from Rajagriha to see and serve the Blessed One, and went to the presence of the Blessed One. He went by chariot to the place where it was possible to ride, and after getting off the chariot, he climbed Vulture Peak Mountain on foot, and went to where the Blessed One was, and after arriving, he engaged in various conversations with the Blessed One that were manifestly joyful and delightful.

Then they sat down together in one place. Having sat down in one place, the Brahmin Summer Giver, who belonged to the great dignitaries of the country of Magadha, addressed the Blessed One as follows: "O Gautama, Blessed One Gautama, the son of the fleshy crest, King Ajatasatru of the country of Magadha, bows his head at your feet and asks if you are free from illness and affliction? Are you at ease? Are you moving lightly? Do you abide in strength and happiness? Are you without fault?" May the son of the fleshy crest, King Ajatasatru of the country of Magadha, and you, Summer Giver, be well and auspicious! O Gautama, the son of the fleshy crest, King Ajatasatru of the country of Magadha, and the Vajjians have become incompatible with each other. Therefore, he said to his retinue, 'Those Vajjians are prosperous, flourishing, happy, bountiful, populous, and full of people. I will destroy them, reduce them to ashes, and eradicate them by unlawful means!' Blessed One Gautama, what is your teaching on this?" Summer Giver said, "This is not absolutely certain. Summer Giver, I once lived near the Chaitya shrine of the Vajjians, and I taught seven laws of non-decline in that abode of the Vajjians. Summer Giver, as long as the Vajjians properly take up and practice these seven laws of non-decline, and as long as these seven laws of non-decline are universally present among the Vajjians, then the virtuous Dharma of the Vajjians will only increase and not decline." Gautama only briefly declared these things. Because it was not explained in detail, I did not fully understand the meaning. If Gautama could explain in detail and elaborate on what he briefly declared, then I would be able to understand well the meaning that the Blessed One Gautama has explained and elaborated on. Then, at that time, the Venerable Ananda was beside the Blessed One, holding a fan and fanning the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda, "Ananda, do the Vajjians often assemble? Do they often assemble
