Ldan thus reported: "Venerable, when monks dwell together, how should the attendants serve the khenpo and the teacher?" Gu-yu (Ngag-ldan) said: "When monks dwell together, I shall truly establish the rules of conduct that the attendants should practice in all ways." When monks dwell together, the attendants should rise early in the morning and ask the khenpo and the teacher if they are well. If the khenpo says that he is not well, then ask about his illness, and then visit the doctor, saying sincerely: 'My khenpo is now ill, please prescribe some medicine.' Then do as the doctor instructs. If medicine can be found, that is good. If not, then beg from his relatives. If there are many relatives, then ask: 'From which of the khenpo's relatives should I beg for medicine?' Then beg from the one he indicates. If there are no relatives, then beg from the Brahmin or householder, from the one he indicates. If there is no such person, then beg from the pharmacy. If it cannot be found there either, then look to your own ability and only maintain food and drink and tasting. If the situation is not so, then chew on a tooth-stick, and in the direction where the khenpo has discarded the tooth-stick, sweep and make a mandala, spread a mat, and place a water vessel, copper pot, cleansing cloth, and discarded tooth-stick, and then take up the copper pot. If one is suffering from an eye disease, then one should prepare eye medicine as prescribed by the doctor. After preparing the eye medicine, one should offer it and then take it back again. Clothes should also be offered, and when the clothes have been divided, if one prostrates to the stupas, then one should repair the broken places of the dwelling and sweep. If there is dust, then one should smear it with cow dung or green leaves. Then prostrate to the stupa, and also prostrate to the practitioners of pure conduct as much as possible. Then abide by means of meditation and recitation. Knowing the time, wash the two bowls. If one is an alms-seeker, then one should treat the heavier bowl with respect, and then give the lighter one to the khenpo. If it is cold weather, then one should give the heavier woolen cloth to the khenpo, and then oneself

How should it be divided? If it becomes warm, then the lighter one should be offered to the Khenpo, and the heavier one I should respectfully hold. If the road is uneven, one should walk in front, and if it is smooth, one should follow behind. If it is necessary to cross a river, one should hold the Khenpo's hand. When going to a village, one should ask the Khenpo: Khenpo, are you going alms-gathering with me, or separately? If the Khenpo says to go together, then one should go together. After going, if one finds some flour, one should put it in one's own bowl. If it is rice or something similar, one should say: Please pour it into the Khenpo's bowl. If one finds food made from peas or rice flour, one should put it in one's own bowl. If one finds a food called "Kanda," one should say: Please pour it into the Khenpo's bowl. If one finds boiled whey or coarse juice, one should put it in one's own bowl. If it is milk, yogurt, or a mixed drink, one should say: Please pour it into the Khenpo's bowl. Then, returning to the dwelling, one should make two mandalas, pick up scattered leaves, and lay out two cushions. Then, sitting down, one should attend to the matter of food. If one goes alms-gathering separately, the food obtained from alms-gathering should be presented to the Khenpo, saying: Khenpo, this is the food I have obtained from alms-gathering. Please take whatever you desire from it. He should also take an appropriate amount. If one can obtain food from the Sangha, one should wash the utensils and go to the assembly of the Sangha, respectfully asking: Venerable ones, what food has the Sangha prepared today? He should also speak to them respectfully. Then he should say to the Khenpo: Khenpo, the Sangha has prepared such and such food. Please take whatever you desire from it. He should also take an appropriate amount. Then, in the place where the Khenpo has washed his hands, one should make a mandala and place the cushion, water pot, water filter, and toothpick nearby, and one should also wash the Khenpo's feet. After washing the feet, one should clean the shoes and offer them. Wash
