Abandoning the roots of virtue of non-attachment, abandoning the roots of virtue of non-hatred, and abandoning the roots of virtue of non-ignorance, these three dharmas are abandoned. Which three dharmas are increased? Increasing the roots of non-virtue of attachment, increasing the roots of non-virtue of hatred, and increasing the roots of non-virtue of ignorance. These three dharmas are increased. In which direction do the monks dwell and fight, expose each other's faults, attack each other, argue with each other, and quarrel with each other? The monks there abandon these three dharmas and increase these three dharmas. In which direction do the monks dwell and fight, expose each other's faults, attack each other, argue with each other, and quarrel with each other? The monks there abandon these three dharmas and increase the three dharmas, I do not even want to hear of it, let alone go and dwell there. I say I will not go there. Venerable ones, do not quarrel, may each of you obtain a mind of renunciation. When they were completely entangled, expanding outwards, and could not be stopped, the Brahmins and householders saw and understood.

Those misbehaving ascetics, even if reprimanded, cannot obtain their respective renunciate minds, and only constantly quarrel, thus being ridiculed, reviled, and ostracized. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed: Monks, the ridicule of Brahmins and householders is inevitable. Therefore, monks, monks with grievances should not reprimand each other. Even if reprimanding, one should first ask for forgiveness. If they ask for forgiveness on the day of reprimanding, it will only worsen the dispute, and then they will not be able to obtain their respective renunciate minds. The Blessed One instructed: Do not ask for forgiveness on the same day. But ask for forgiveness seven or eight days later when the reprimand is about to take place. The Blessed One instructed: One should ask for forgiveness seven or eight days later when the reprimand is about to take place. Thus, they all asked for forgiveness. The Blessed One instructed: Not everyone should ask for forgiveness. But those who are not in harmony should ask for forgiveness. Others should be friendly with each other and then reprimand. The origin of the story occurred in Shravasti. The Blessed One instructed that a grand tonsure festival should be held every five years. Brahmins and devout householders competed with each other to host it. At that time, monks and nuns gathered together, forming a grand assembly. The Blessed One instructed them to sit in order of seniority. When the nuns sat in order of seniority, they made a clamor. The nuns said to the monks. The monks reported this matter to the Blessed One. The Blessed One instructed that two or three people should sit in order of seniority. The rest should sit according to rotation and desire. Summary: Sitting by the door, two receive the Uposatha and listen to the precepts. Even if a nun is learned, she cannot receive the Uposatha alone.
