Such is the wrong livelihood of the alms examination of the ascetics, from which I return. O wretched one, like this, some ascetics and Brahmins, having fully enjoyed what is given by faith, live by the wrong livelihood of alms examination, like this: the examination of healing, and the root medicines, and the giving of eye medicine, and the giving of flavors, and the giving of medicines, and the examination of women, and the examination of men, and the examination of children, and the examination of young women, and the application of medicines. This is the wrong livelihood of the alms examination of the ascetics, from which I return. O wretched one, like this, some ascetics and Brahmins, having fully enjoyed what is given by faith, live by the wrong livelihood of alms examination, like this: the characteristics of jewels, and the characteristics of staffs, and the characteristics of swords, and the characteristics of arrows, and the characteristics of weapons, and the characteristics of elephants, and the characteristics of horses, and the characteristics of bulls, and the characteristics of buffaloes, and the characteristics of rams, and the characteristics of sheep, and the characteristics of crows, and the characteristics of owls, and the characteristics of kingfishers, and the characteristics of women, and the characteristics of men, and the characteristics of youths, and the characteristics of young women, and the signs of short life, and the signs of long life, and the signs of little fortune, and the signs of great fortune, and the signs of little power, and the signs of great power, and the characteristics of masters, and the characteristics of servants.
