Please explain the Dharma in that way. For that Brahmin boy, listen well and keep it in mind, and I will explain. Brahmin boy, the teacher, the Thus Come One, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Well-Gone, the Knower of the World, the Tamer of Beings, the Teacher of Gods and Humans, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, has appeared in this world. The Dharma he teaches is good in the beginning, good in the middle, good in the end, with good meaning, good words, unmixed, completely perfect, completely pure, thoroughly purified, and he excellently teaches the Brahmacharya. That Dharma is heard by a householder or a householder's son, and he gains great faith in that Dharma. Those who have great faith in this will each diligently study: the home life is fearful, a place of dust. Renunciation is unsurpassed. If I, as a householder, remain at home, to practice the Brahmacharya completely pure, completely perfect, completely pure, and thoroughly purified for as long as I live, is difficult. Therefore, I will shave my hair and beard, wear the robes, and go forth from home to homelessness, solely by correct faith. He thus individually contemplates, abandons the assembly of enjoyments, whether many or few, and the many relatives and attendants. Having shaved his hair and beard, and wearing the robes, he goes forth from home to homelessness solely by correct faith, and abides in morality. He is bound by the vows of individual liberation. He is perfect in conduct and practice, and even sees fear in the slightest fault. He properly undertakes the basis of training and learns. He abandons killing, and refrains from killing. He has abandoned the rod, abandoned weapons. He is endowed with shame. Towards all sentient beings, even small creatures like ants, he refrains from killing. He abandons taking what is not given, and refrains from taking what is not given. He is a giver, delights in receiving gifts, delights in generous giving. He is not a thief, not greedy, is pure, is generous.
