For those who have, it will indeed become fruit. Monks, in the past, in this very Fortunate Aeon, when the lifespan of beings reached twenty thousand years, a teacher named Light Protector, endowed with knowledge and conduct, Sugata, Knower of the World, unsurpassed charioteer of beings to be tamed, teacher of gods and humans, Buddha Bhagavan appeared in the world, dwelling near the Deer Park at Ṛṣipatana in the city of Vārāṇasī. He went forth from his teaching and became a monk named Dwelling in Loving-kindness. The monks ridiculed him, saying, "Dwelling in Loving-kindness, Dwelling in Loving-kindness." Even when he tried to stop them, he could not. He was completely entangled by intense anger, and with malice towards them, he said, "I am Dwelling in Loving-kindness, but you are wicked men." He spoke harsh words of action. The Bhagavan said, "Monks, what do you think? The one who was called Dwelling in Loving-kindness in the teaching of the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector is this very monk. At that time, he spoke to the hearers of the perfectly complete Buddha Light Protector, saying, 'You are wicked men,' and constantly abused them. Due to the ripening of that action, he was born as a venomous snake for five hundred lifetimes. Now, even now, due to the remainder of that very action, he is born as this venomous snake. He was skilled in reciting, reading, chanting, skilled in the aggregates, skilled in the elements, skilled in the sense bases, skilled in dependent origination, and skilled in what is and is not. Therefore, having gone forth in my teaching, he abandoned all defilements and directly realized Arhatship. Therefore, monks, the ripening of completely dark actions is completely dark, the ripening of completely white actions is completely white, and mixed actions are mixed. Therefore, monks, completely dark actions and mixed actions should be abandoned, and completely white actions should be cultivated. Monks, you should train in such a way.

should be done. After the Blessed One spoke thus, the monks rejoiced and praised the words of the Blessed One. In summary: Patched robes should be distributed as needed, those who live in solitude and those who have livelihoods, heavy things and noisy things should not be eaten, and one should not practice in Varanasi. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden in Shravasti. The monks divided the patched robes, sewed them, and smeared them with soft cow dung. They urinated and defecated in the toilet areas, and also did dyeing and other work, and there they also wore upper and lower garments. The monks said: Venerable ones, these monks use the Dharma robes completely without distinction. The Blessed One said that patched robes are the best of Dharma robes, so how can they use the patched robes, which are the best of Dharma robes, completely without distinction? Another said: What the venerable ones say is true, there must be a reason for this, it should be investigated. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, the monks have become the reason for saying this, monks, patched robes are like a king, therefore one should not do anything while wearing patched robes. After the Blessed One said that one should not do anything while wearing patched robes, the monks divided the patched robes, but did not know what to do and what not to do. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, when going to a place to practice, sitting at the beginning of a meal, prostrating to stupas, listening to the teacher's teachings and understanding them individually, listening to Dharma during the day, listening to Dharma at night, sitting and eating in a row, paying homage to the Khenpo and Acharya, and also when living together with those who practice Brahmacharya, one should wear patched robes. The upper garment should be worn in a clean place and all work should be done. The lower garment should be used freely. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. After that, the Blessed One

The past (Buddha) said to the monks: Monks, the sun has risen! The crows are cawing! The fields are being plowed! The robbers are crying! Monks, the rising of the sun is the honorific term for the Thus Come One, the Arhat, the Perfectly and Completely Awakened One. The cawing of crows is the honorific term for the individuals who preach the Dharma. The plowing of fields by farmers is the honorific term for patrons and donors. The crying of robbers is the honorific term for the retinue of Mara. Monks, the teacher is so loving to the listeners, and delights in benefiting them for the sake of compassion. I look upon you with compassion, and you should meditate in monasteries, under trees, in empty houses, mountains, solitary places, mountain caves, grass mats, uncovered places, cemeteries, forests, and remote dwellings. Monks, do not be negligent and do not regret it later! This is my teaching. The Blessed One said to the monks, be mindful and meditate in such dwellings. The monks began to meditate in the dwellings as instructed. Soon, a monk with little learning went to a monastery and stayed there, not returning to the village at night, and always staying there during the day except for the time of begging for alms. Cowherds, shepherds, grass cutters, wood cutters, those who live by the road,
