Then the monks requested the Blessed One. The Blessed One wondered, what is the fault of the monks frequently entering and leaving the doors of many houses? Therefore, the Blessed One, knowing that the monks should not frequently enter and leave the doors of many houses, then taught: Monks, therefore, for that reason, monks should not frequently enter and leave the doors of many houses. However, having previously gone to other people's houses, when later going to the doors of many houses, one should first place flour and vegetables, etc., as a sign next to the door, and then enter. The Blessed One said: One should place flour and vegetables as a sign next to the door, and then go to the doors of many houses. The monks entered without placing a sign next to the door, (and saw) men and women with amorous feelings, the lower body wearing skirts, the upper body wearing upper garments, with lice on their bodies, mites everywhere, women with dirty bodies and mouths, after seeing them, they began to observe, becoming very naked and exposed, when they were ridiculed, the monks heard it, and then requested the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: Monks, the women have become objects of ridicule, therefore, the monks should not enter so suddenly. However, one should make a sound before entering. The Blessed One said: One should make a sound before entering. They made an "Alala" sound and entered, the people in the house said: Venerable ones, why do you come making an "Alala" sound like children? They said: Sisters, the Blessed One taught to make a sound before entering, so we come making a sound. They said: Venerable ones, do you have no other way to make a sound? Why do you come like this? They felt ashamed and sat without saying a word. At that time the monks heard it, and then requested the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: Monks, one should not enter the house making an "Alala" sound, but should make another sound. The Blessed One said: One should make another sound. When they went, they knocked on the door knocker, the people in the house said: Venerable ones, why knock on the door

They knock on the door. They said it makes a sound. Did you break the door? They had no courage and sat there without saying a word. At that time, the monks heard it and reported to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Do not knock on the door, but make a sound with a stick. The monks did not know what kind of stick made the sound, so the Blessed One said: Hold a khakkhara (staff with metal rings), and enter after making a sound with it. After the Blessed One said, "Enter after making a sound with the khakkhara," the monks went after making a sound with the khakkhara, and those dogs harmed them. Some people recklessly beat the khakkhara many times, and the Blessed One said: Do not beat with the khakkhara, but scare them. After scaring some dogs, they became even more ferocious and bit, and the Blessed One said: Give them a mouthful of food from alms. They went to the house of another non-believer, and the monks shook the khakkhara, and people were unhappy, and no one asked. The Blessed One said: Do not shake it repeatedly, but shake it two or three times. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. In Shravasti, another householder invited the Buddha and the monastic community of monks to receive offerings, and the monastic community of monks came. The Blessed One sat on the prepared seat and also accepted alms. There are five reasons why the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, sit on the prepared seat and also accept alms. What are the five? In order to abide internally, in order to teach the Dharma to the gods, in order to visit the sick, in order to inspect the bedding, and in order to establish the basis for training in discipline for the Shravakas. At this time, the Blessed One wanted to establish the basis for training in discipline for the Shravakas, so he sat on the prepared seat and also accepted alms. That householder made a leaf canopy, and under that canopy...

The community of monks was dwelling, and it began to rain. A time of winter arrived, and that householder offered noodles, pies, rice pies, and radishes to the community of monks. Some of the monks made a "huff huff" sound when drinking noodles. Some made a "crunch crunch" sound when eating rice pies. Some made a "swish swish" sound when eating radishes. Drops of water dripped on the ground, making a "drip drip" sound. When monks drank water from a pot, they made a "glug glug" sound. One who had ordained from a musician did not maintain mindfulness, remembering what he had done before, and the power of his thoughts increased. Driven by universal thoughts, he stood up and danced in accordance with the sounds, saying, "Monk swish swish, monk crunch crunch, monk thump thump, monk slap slap, monk glug glug." Those monks who did not maintain mindfulness became happy and laughed. Those who maintained mindfulness did not deviate from their conduct and remained there. Some almsgivers began to laugh. Some became contemptuous. The householder also became disbelieving. Then, the monk who was collecting alms also developed disbelief. Having collected alms, he went to where the Blessed One was, and having arrived, he placed the alms to one side, bowed to the Blessed One's feet with his head, and sat to one side. By nature, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, were very pleased with the monk who collected alms and spoke words of joy, saying, "Have the monks, the community of monks, been satisfied with the food obtained by alms?" The Blessed One spoke words of great joy and asked the monk who collected alms, "Monks, have the community of monks been satisfied with the food obtained by alms?" He replied, "Yes, Blessed One, the community of monks has been satisfied with the food obtained by alms, but the householder has become disbelieving." He reported in detail what they had done and how it had become like this. Then, the Blessed One finished the act of eating, washed his feet outside the monastery, entered the monastery, and sat down properly inside.
