Bright utpala flowers, lotuses, water lilies, and white lotuses were showered down. The nagas began to hurl single-pronged vajras, great arrows, single-pointed weapons, and battle-axes. A rain of kusuma flowers fell upon the elder, and they said: Just as the peak of a snow mountain is melted by the sunlight, so that all the mountain peaks are seen to have disappeared. Banners were waved, and various rains of kusuma flowers were made to fall. A rain of arrows fell from the sky, transforming into garlands of flowers that pervaded everywhere. Then, having entered into the samadhi of loving-kindness, his body was not burned by fire, not harmed by weapons, and not affected by poison, and the nagas were amazed. Then, those nagas went to the elder and said: What command does the noble one give? The elder said: Give me this place. The nagas said: Giving is of no use. The elder said: This place was prophesied by the Bhagavan to be my dwelling. Wherever this land of Kashmir (Kashmir region) is, a place suitable for meditation, from now on it is mine. The nagas said: Elder, did the Bhagavan say so? The elder said: The Bhagavan said so. The nagas said: How much space should we give? The elder said: Just the amount for sitting in the lotus position. The nagas said: Venerable one, we will give it. The elder sat in the lotus position, and the confluence of nine valleys was suppressed by the lotus position. The nagas said: Elder, how many attendants do you have? The elder thought, how many monks will gather? The elder thought, how many, five hundred arhats, and then said: Five hundred arhats. The nagas said: So be it. If even one arhat is missing, then we will reclaim the land of Kashmir (Kashmir region). The elder subdued them, and they said, "How long will the Buddha's teachings last?" The elder said, "A thousand years." They vowed, "As long as the Buddha's teachings last, we will protect them." The elder said, "As you wish." Soon after, the elder blessed the planting of saffron in the Kashmir region. Soon after, the elder established the Buddha's teachings in the Kashmir region at noon and widely propagated them. He delighted the donors and those who practiced chastity with various miracles, and like extinguishing fire with water, he finally passed into nirvana. People burned his body with sandalwood, excellent soil, agarwood, and other woods, and built a stupa to enshrine it. After that, the Venerable Katyayana also ordained the Venerable Nearsuraksha and widely propagated the Dharma. He said to the Venerable Nearsuraksha, "Venerable Nearsuraksha, know that the Blessed One entrusted the Dharma to the Venerable Mahakashyapa and then passed into nirvana. The Venerable Mahakashyapa entrusted the Dharma to the abbot, and the abbot entrusted the Dharma to me, and then passed into nirvana. Son, I will also pass into nirvana. Now you should protect the Dharma, and you must diligently practice everything that the Blessed One has said."
