In the house of a certain landowner, a holy woman manifested a sign, saying that it was difficult to find a landowner's wife. That landowner also understood and said: Holy mother, you have come late, I have given you all that I had, except for this one house, I have nothing left to give. She said: Landowner, raising it up like an elephant's trunk, how can I leave disappointed if I come to you? He said: Holy mother, didn't I say that I have nothing left except this one house? If you want it, take this house. She said: Landowner, let it be accepted in that way. May you be free from illness, she said and left. After some time, that landowner passed away, and his relatives decorated the coffin with blue, yellow, red, and white cloths and carried it to the cemetery. When Fat Delight heard that the landowner had passed away, she hurried over, locked and sealed his house, and stayed there alone. After some time, those people came back after the cremation and asked: Who sealed this house? Fat Delight said: Whoever has the right sealed it. They asked: To whom was it given? She said: To me, Fat Delight. They said: Holy mother, if that is the case, then the poor must be allowed to enter. She said: To give or not to give? Saying this, she broke the lock, and those people entered. After they entered and sat down, Brahmins and landowners also came and gathered there, mocking and saying: The monks, the sons of Shakya, are shameful! The pure conduct is shameful! Now they are renting and renting houses. The monks heard these words and reported them to the Blessed One. The Blessed One taught: Monks, the mockery of the Brahmins and landowners is justified. Therefore, nuns should not rent and rent houses. If a nun rents and rents a house, she will commit a serious offense. In Shravasti, there lived another merchant who loved giving, and at another time he became ill, and the life of his body was completely exhausted, just like...

Thinking that he was going to die, he gave away all that he could control and had in his house to ascetics, Brahmins, and other friends, relatives, and close relatives. Only one shop remained. When Bountiful Joy heard of this, she hurried to him, approached the merchant, and hinted that female patrons were hard to find. The householder, understanding, said, "Holy mother, you have come too late. I have given away all that I had, and only the shop remains. There is nothing left to give." She said, "O patron, how can one who comes to you with a trunk raised like an elephant's be turned away in disappointment?" He said, "Holy mother, did I not say that only the shop remains? If you wish, take the house." She said, "Householder, so be it. May you be free from illness," and she left. Some time later, the householder passed away. His relatives decorated the coffin with blue, yellow, red, and white cloths and carried it to the cemetery. When Bountiful Joy heard that the householder had passed away, she hurried to the shop, closed and locked the door, and then went and sat aside. After they had cremated the body and returned, the friends, relatives, and close relatives gathered together to relieve their sorrow and sat for a while. Another man, intending to go to the market to trade, went to the house and said to them, "Bountiful Joy has locked up the shop." Hearing this, they hurried to the shop and said, "Who locked up this shop?" Bountiful Joy said, "The one to whom it was given locked it up." They said, "To whom was it given?" She said, "It was given to me, Bountiful Joy." They said, "Holy mother, if that is so, then please open the lock so that we may display our goods." She said, "Will you give it?" They said, "We will give it." So they broke the lock and displayed their goods there. Brahmins and householders gathered there and sat, saying, "The monks, sons of the Shakya, are truly hateful! They practice pure conduct."

are words of anger. Because now they rent out shops, they mock, insult, and slander those people. When the monks heard this, they reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One said: Monks, Brahmins and householders will have reason to mock. Therefore, nuns should not rent out shops. If a nun rents out a shop, she will commit a serious offense. The origin of the story is in Shravasti (Mnyan-yod). The nun Svatika (Sbom-dga') in the morning, wearing her skirt, putting on her robes, and carrying her bowl, entered Shravasti for alms. A female fortune-teller carrying a bell saw her walking. She thought: This method is good, I will do it too. So, she prepared the bell. Then the next day, she took the bell and entered Shravasti, and began to bathe boys and girls, carrying incense, ringing the bell, and making predictions. Whichever boy or girl she bathed, their situation would improve, and her predictions would come true. In Shravasti, the nun Svatika became famous, and wherever a female fortune-teller was needed, people came to ask the nun Svatika, and no one asked the female fortune-teller anymore. Therefore, she went specifically to the Brahmins and householders and said: I will do sacrifices and predictions. Wherever she went, those people said: Our sacrifices and predictions have already been done. Who did the predictions? They said: The holy nun Svatika did it. The practice of the Shakya monks is a word of anger. Brahmacharya is a word of anger, because now they are taking away the livelihood of others, they will mock, insult, and slander. When the monks heard this, they reported it to the Blessed One. The Blessed One considered that the cause of the fault was that the nun wore the image of a deity, so knowing that the nun should not wear the image of a deity, he said: Monks, the root of the ridicule of those female fortune-tellers is Svatika.
