Adorned with the thirty-two major marks, his body adorned with the eighty minor marks, surrounded by a fathom of light surpassing the rays of a thousand suns. Like a moving mountain of jewels, upon seeing his beauty from all around, joy arose immediately, thinking, "I have found my son Delightful One," and she went to where the Blessed One was. Having arrived, she bowed her head at the feet of the Blessed One and sat to one side. Having sat to one side, the yaksha woman Hariti said to the Blessed One: "O Gautama, please show me my son Delightful One. It has been a long time since I have seen my son Delightful One." The Blessed One said to the yaksha woman Hariti, "Hariti, do you have many sons? How many?" She replied, "Blessed One, I have five hundred sons." The Blessed One said to Hariti, "Since that is so, what harm is there if one of your five hundred sons is missing?" She pleaded, "Blessed One, if I do not see Delightful One, I will vomit warm blood and die, devoured by demons." "Hariti, if you suffer so much from not seeing one of your five hundred sons, how much suffering will those who have only one son experience when you kill and eat them?" She pleaded, "Blessed One, that suffering is certainly much greater." The Blessed One taught, "Hariti, knowing such suffering from being separated from a son, why do you eat the sons of others?" She pleaded, "Blessed One, please tell me what I should do." The Blessed One said, "Come, take refuge in me, uphold the precepts, and give fearlessness to the many people living in Rajagriha (Royal City, located in Bihar). If you stay here, you will see your son Delightful One and will not be devoured by demons." She (the yaksha woman) said, "Venerable One, from this day forward, I will take refuge in the Blessed One, uphold the precepts, and give fearlessness to the many people living in Rajagriha (Royal City, located in Bihar)." After that, the Blessed One showed her son Delightful One, and she also took refuge in the Blessed One, upheld the precepts, and gave fearlessness to the many people living in Rajagriha (Royal City, located in Bihar).

At that time, having taken refuge and established the basis of learning, the monks gave fearlessness to many beings dwelling in the royal palace. Then, the monks became doubtful and, in order to dispel all doubts, asked the Blessed One, the Buddha. Venerable, what deeds did the flesh-eating female yaksha do? Due to the ripening of what karma was she born as a flesh-eating female yaksha who steals the essence of others, and from this, gave birth to five hundred sons? The Blessed One said: Monks, the deeds done and accumulated by the flesh-eating female yaksha, when the conditions ripen, are as close as a stream of water and will not be wasted. The deeds done and accumulated by the flesh-eater will not be experienced by others. Monks, the deeds done and accumulated do not ripen in the external realm of earth, nor in the realm of water, nor in the realm of fire, nor in the realm of wind, but in this very aggregate, realm, and source of perception that is grasped. Virtuous and non-virtuous deeds both ripen. Deeds will not be lost; even after hundreds of kalpas, when the time and conditions are right, they will ripen as fruit for sentient beings. Monks, in the past, it happened that in another city in this very royal palace, there lived a cowherd who took a wife from the same clan, and together they enjoyed playing and rejoicing. After enjoying playing and rejoicing, at a later time, his wife became pregnant. When a Buddha does not appear in the world, solitary Buddhas appear in the world, and because they have compassion for the weak and the inferior, they eventually become the sole object of offerings in the world. When another solitary Buddha traveled to the royal palace, at that time, a festival was approaching in the city of the royal palace. At that time, about five hundred non-Buddhist ascetics, carrying clean alms bowls filled with delicious food and adorned with various clothes, fragrant kusuma flowers, dancing, singing, drumming, and ringing bells, were going to the pleasure garden. On the way, a cowherd girl, carrying a water jug full of milk, was walking down that road. When those non-Buddhist ascetics saw her, they said, "Friend, come here and sing with us!" And she danced along with them.
