But upon the aggregates, realms, and sources that have been taken, virtuous and non-virtuous actions are performed, causing them to ripen. All actions will not be lost. Even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, when the time and conditions meet, the fruits will ripen for sentient beings. Monks, in the past, in another mountain village, there lived a householder. He was wealthy and had much wealth, enjoyed great prosperity, and had a spacious and vast dwelling, like wealth obtained through hard work. From the wealth obtained through hard work, he took a wife who was of equal status to him. He enjoyed pleasures fully with her. Although he enjoyed pleasures fully, he had neither a son nor a daughter. He said, "Although much wealth has accumulated in my house, I have neither a son nor a daughter. After I die, all my possessions will become the king's treasury because I have no son." He rested his cheek on his hand and sat deeply contemplating, and his wife saw him and said, "Master, why are you resting your cheek on your hand and sitting deeply contemplating?" He replied, "Good woman, although much wealth has accumulated in my house, I have neither a son nor a daughter, so after I die, all my possessions will become ownerless. Why shouldn't I sit deeply contemplating?" She thought, "Is it that my merit is small? I have neither a son nor a daughter. Is it that my merit is small? He is not blaming me, but wants to find fault with me and take another wife. Therefore, he is resting his cheek on his hand in front of me and sitting deeply contemplating, saying that although much wealth has accumulated in my house, I have neither a son nor a daughter, and after I die, all my possessions will become the king's treasury. Therefore, I must stop him." Thinking this, she said, "Master, since my merit is small, you have no son or daughter, so take another wife. From her, a son and daughter may also be born." Everything followed the laws of nature, the new overwhelmed the old, and he loved her very much and devoted himself wholeheartedly. Later, his old wife became pregnant due to her innate jealousy, and she was very happy and said to him: Master, be happy, I am pregnant. He said: Good girl, that's great. If a son is born, he will become the master of the house after I die. She said: Master, if your wife does not use an abortion ritual to cause the fetus to miscarry, he will become the master of the house. When she was raising him, evil thoughts arose: Whose son is this, it is that person's house. Therefore, even if I raise him, he will become the master of the house, and I will become a maid, so I should kill him. So she was driven by evil thoughts and stabbed the boy's face with a spindle.
