Having rejoiced at what the great son of Katyayana had said, he bowed his head to his feet, rose from his seat, and departed. He went to his own J01,Vo11,Po14B home and carried out all that the venerable great son of Katyayana had said, and replaced the old beam. He also did not allow the horse herder to take care of it as he pleased. He also filled the pond with water. He also released the elephants, deer, and swans. After seven days, all the benefits he had shown came to pass, and he was filled with joy at finding wealth. He became even more devoted to the venerable great son of Katyayana, thinking: All the glory and power that I have in my house has come about through the noble great son of Katyayana. Therefore, I will send this large piece of cotton cloth for now, and later I will offer the kingdom. Having thought this, he said to a man: Hey, you come here, take this large piece of cotton cloth and offer it to the noble great son of Katyayana. And he took the large piece of cotton cloth and gave it to the noble great son of Katyayana. Then he said to the mother of the cowherd, Mahiva, the daughter of Kayasang, Dolma, the young cowherd, the caretaker, and the attendant: Wise ones, these gifts that the kings who rule over various countries have sent to me, take whatever you desire. Then the mother of the cowherd, Mahiva, took the golden necklace, the daughter of Kayasang, Dolma, took the precious lapis lazuli, the young cowherd took two horses, the caretaker took a pair of swords, the attendant took a pair of jeweled shoes, and the king took the remaining chief elephant. Then King Rab Snang (Radiant Light) distributed the jewels to the five chief ministers and went to where the venerable great son of Katyayana was, and having arrived, bowed his head to the feet of the venerable great son of Katyayana and sat down on one side. Having sat down on one side, King Rab Snang said this to the venerable great son of Katyayana: Holy one, you bestow medicine and cherish us, therefore, if I were to offer the kingdom to the Holy One, would you

Please come closer to the throne and inherit the kingdom. The Venerable Katyayana's son said: Great King, the Blessed One has forbidden monks from holding royal power. The King said: Holy One, if that is so, if all desires can be granted, please allow me to enjoy all desires. He said: Great King, the Blessed One has also forbidden all desires. The King said: Holy One, if that is so, if enjoyment and the best of enjoyments can be granted, please allow me to enjoy them. He said: Great King, please wait a moment, I will first report to the Blessed One and then do it. The King said: Holy One, please do so. At that time, the Blessed One was living in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. In such a situation, there is not even a little bit of unknowing, unseeing, unperceiving, or uncompletely perceiving for the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones. The Blessed One thought: Although the great Katyayana's son is not seeking enjoyment and the best of enjoyments, but in order to benefit future generations, after thinking, he generated worldly intention. The Dharma nature is that when the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, generate worldly intention, even ants and other small insects can know the Blessed One's mind with their minds. When generating transcendental intention, even Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas cannot know the Blessed One's mind with their minds, let alone those who have fallen into the animal realm? Regarding this matter, the Blessed One and the Venerable Great Katyayana's son's minds are in harmony, and worldly intention is generated. Then, the Blessed One and the Venerable Great Katyayana's son accomplished supernatural powers with divine eyes and divine ears, and also began to look at and listen to each other. Then, the Venerable Great Katyayana's son said to the Blessed One: Venerable, is it permissible for a monk to accept enjoyment and the best of enjoyment for the sake of the Sangha? Blessed One

The departed thus spoke: Katyayana's son, for the sake of compassion for future beings, and for the sake of increasing the enjoyment of donors, therefore, one should give enjoyment and supreme enjoyment to the Sangha, not to individuals. Among them, enjoyment is: villages and fields, etc. Supreme enjoyment is: cattle, buffaloes, goats, and sheep, etc. After that, the Venerable Katyayana's son, after reporting to the Blessed One, said to King Prabhasvara: Great King, the Blessed One, for the sake of compassion for future beings, and for the sake of increasing the enjoyment of donors, gives enjoyment and supreme enjoyment to the Sangha. After that, King Prabhasvara, relying on the Venerable Katyayana's son, had a monastery built with all the necessary equipment complete, offered it to the Sangha of monks from the four directions, and also offered enjoyment and supreme enjoyment. After that, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, among those who first provided all necessities to my female lay followers, my disciples, the Sangha, the most excellent is this King Prabhasvara. Monks, among those who first offered food to my female lay followers, my disciples, the Sangha, the most excellent is King Bimbisara of Rajagriha. Monks, among those who first offered lodging to my female lay followers, my disciples, the Sangha, the most excellent is the householder Anathapindika of Shravasti. Monks, among those who first built monasteries for my female lay followers, my disciples, the Sangha, the most excellent is the householder Bhadra of Varanasi. Summary verse: King Prabhasvara for all necessities, Bimbisara for Sangha's food, Anathapindika for lodging, Bhadra for monasteries. King Prabhasvara takes turns eating meals in the company of his consorts and retinue, one day at the place of the cowherd girl Mashi, one day at...
