After that, because it did not rain, they were hungry and thirsty in the temple. The two found a piece of dog meat, and the ugly man roasted it and ate it himself. Udumbarika begged him again. The ugly man said: "The sages did not allow women to eat this, so I cannot give it to you." She thought: "Such an unfortunate person like me is tormented by the suffering of hunger!" "What fault did my parents see in me that they gave me to such a person!" So she said many complaints to her parents. Later, as they were walking, they saw a Udumbara tree full of ripe fruit. The ugly man climbed up and ate it. Udumbarika said: "Don't just eat it yourself, throw some down to me!" The ugly man said: "I ate the ripe ones, and only threw down the unripe ones." She said: "Don't throw the unripe ones, give me some of the ripe ones too!" The ugly man said: "If you want to eat the ripe ones, climb up and pick them yourself!" Because she was unbearably hungry, she struggled to climb the Udumbara tree and picked and ate them. The ugly man thought: "Such an unlucky person like me, marrying such a wife, it is difficult enough to support myself, let alone support her! This person doesn't even want to look at me!" So he came down from the tree, surrounded the Udumbara tree with thorns, abandoned her, and left. It is also said: "The two of them walked in the forest and saw ripe Udumbara fruit."
