Should the offerings be cut off? Having said this, she and her wife angrily said: Why didn't lightning strike his head when he came? The eldest son said: Why didn't this venomous snake eat him? The middle son said: Why didn't he fall into the river and die untimely? The youngest son said: Why didn't the fox eat him? Monks, what do you think? That householder with his wife were the parents of Gautami. The eldest son was her husband. The middle son was her eldest son. The youngest son was her youngest son. Thus, having uttered harsh words with evil intent towards the Arhat, due to the maturation of their karma, they were killed by lightning, venomous snakes, foxes, etc., and died untimely in four ways, including falling into the river. Therefore, monks, the maturation of extremely dark karma is also extremely dark. Extremely white karma is extremely white. Mixed karma is mixed. Therefore, monks, abandon extremely dark and mixed karma, and diligently engage in extremely white karma. Monks, you should train yourselves in this way. After the Blessed One said this, the monks rejoiced and were exceedingly pleased with what the Blessed One had said. Vinaya Minor Matters. Volume Thirty-nine. The story takes place in Shravasti. At that time, the foolish prince killed the Shakyas without cause or harm, and the wives of the Shakyas, having lost their brothers, husbands, and fathers, were tormented by suffering, and thus renounced in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya. Suffering is like the sound of a bell. When they were separated from sorrow, they were tormented by the affliction of extremely strong desire and could not bear it. The Blessed One said: A black snake has five faults. What are the five? Being prone to anger, bearing grudges, being stingy, being ungrateful, and having potent venom. Likewise, some women also have five faults. What are the five? Being prone to anger, bearing grudges, being stingy, being ungrateful, and having potent venom.

Then, what is the most potent poison for women? Women are mostly full of desire. They consulted with each other and went to where the bhikkhuni Pūrṇānandā was, paid homage to Pūrṇānandā's feet, and sat down in front of her, saying: Venerable Mother, afflictions are difficult to control, if they deceive women, how should we prevent it? She said: Sisters, what is there to know about that? You are young and in your prime, offer me tribute, and enjoy yourselves with the wealthy, merchants, captains, and other illegitimate sons and sons of others who are helpless! If so, I am also young, I will go with you. She deceived them, and they paid homage to her feet, and then left, saying: Elder sister, the venerable Pūrṇānandā said, what is there to know about this? Some of them said: Elder sister, she spoke well, enjoy yourselves! Others said: Sisters, it is difficult to obtain ordination in the Dharma-Vinaya well spoken by women, let us also ask the venerable Mother Gautamī! They said: Elder sister, good, let us do so. They went to the venerable Mother Gautamī, paid homage to her feet, and then said: Venerable Mother, afflictions are difficult to control, if they deceive women, how should we prevent it? She said: Sisters, do not even mention the name of desires. Why is that? Because desires are small pleasure and great suffering, with many faults. The Blessed One said: The wise, seeing the five faults correctly, should not rely on desires. What are the five? Desires are small pleasure and great suffering, the wise, seeing many faults correctly, should not rely on desires. The wise, seeing that relying on desires will increase the appearance of union, should not rely on desires. The wise, seeing that relying on desires will lead to no generosity, satisfaction, or contentment, should not rely on desires. Relying on desires is not doing sinful deeds

A wise person who sees no merit in desire should not rely on it. Because wise people see that the Buddha, the Buddha's Shravakas, wise people, and truly departed noble beings all condemn desire from many aspects, one should not rely on desire. A wise person who sees five virtues should be inclined to renounce. What are the five? A wise person who sees that their own benefit is not mixed with other things should be inclined to renounce. I (referring to a householder) have no servants, no maids to order around, no freedom from sorrow, no power, and cannot act as I please, while those who have renounced are offered to and praised. A wise person who sees this should be inclined to renounce. A wise person who sees that they will attain the bliss of unsurpassed yoga and Nirvana should be inclined to renounce. Even if I do not attain the bliss of unsurpassed yoga and Nirvana, I will be reborn as a god. A wise person who sees this should be inclined to renounce. From many aspects, renunciation is praised by the Buddha, the Buddha's Shravakas, wise people, truly departed ones, and noble beings. A wise person who sees this should be inclined to renounce. Do I want to hear about the suffering experienced in the next life due to desire? Or do I want to hear about the suffering experienced in this life? They said, "Holy Mother, put aside for now the suffering experienced in the next life due to desire, and please tell us about the suffering experienced in this life." Then, she told them in detail about the suffering of being separated from mothers, fathers, husbands, and sons, and how the suffering of eating the flesh of her son occurred. After hearing this, they felt disgusted, their hairs stood on end, they shook their heads, and looked at Gautami's face. She understood their thoughts, habits, natures, and dispositions, and taught the Dharma that would enable them to truly realize the Four Noble Truths. After hearing the Dharma, they destroyed the twenty peaks of the mountain of the view of the aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and realized the fruit of stream-entry. They were true
