Who will become impoverished? Who will become miserable? Who will be harmed? Who will become impoverished, miserable, and harmed? Who will incline towards the evil realms? Who will fall into the evil realms? Who will descend into the evil realms? Who will be drawn from the evil realms and placed in the heavens and liberation? Whose roots of virtue have not been generated, may they be generated. Whose generated roots of virtue, may they be fully matured. Whose matured roots of virtue, may they be completely liberated. Who is sinking in the swamp of desire, may they be pulled out by the hand. Who is separated from the wealth of the noble ones, may they be placed in dominion over the wealth of the noble ones. Who will make the world adorned with the appearance of the Buddhas and with fruits? Thus, the wisdom vision enters. It is said: The ocean is the abode of aquatic creatures, The waves of time may pass, But for the sons to be tamed, The Buddha's time never passes. Just as a mother cherishes her only beloved child, Watching over and protecting its life, Likewise, the Tathagata watches over the beings to be tamed, And protects their lineage. The dew of compassion, dwelling in the lineage of the all-knowing one, In the difficult-to-traverse existence, For the sons to be tamed who wander, Seeks tirelessly like a cow searching for its lost calf. The Blessed One contemplated: Who should tame King Tumbo Rabnang of Arya, along with his queen's entourage, youths, ministers, and the assembly of beings dwelling in Arya? He saw that it was the great Bhikshu Katyayana's son. Then the Blessed One spoke to the venerable Katyayana's son: Katyayana's son, contemplate the king Tumbo Rabnang of Arya, along with his queen's entourage, youths, ministers, and the assembly of beings dwelling in Arya. The venerable one replied, "So I shall, O Blessed One." The venerable Katyayana's son, having heard the Blessed One's words, after that night had passed, in the early morning, put on his Dharma robes and lower garments, took his alms bowl, and entered Varanasi for alms. Having practiced alms-gathering in Varanasi, having finished the meal, having stopped taking after-meal snacks, having arranged his dwelling as it was used, taking his alms bowl and Dharma robes, he traveled with five hundred attendants towards where Arya was.

At that time, in the land of Kanyakubja, there lived a Brahmin who was a former householder friend of the Venerable Mahā-Kātyāyana. He had a daughter with extraordinary beauty, and in accordance with her name from a previous life, she was named 'Hair Woman.' Soon after, a teacher of dancers came from the south. He saw that her hair was beautiful and went to the Brahmin, saying, 'O great Brahmin, please give me this girl's hair, and I will give you a thousand karshapanas.' The Brahmin said, 'Teacher, we are Brahmins, and we are not allowed to sell hair, so how can we sell hair?' The teacher of dancers left without saying a word. The Brahmin also passed away the next day. His wife heard that the Venerable Mahā-Kātyāyana, with five hundred attendants, was staying not far from there and intended to go to Rajagriha. Grieving and unhappy due to being separated from her husband, she heard that the Venerable Mahā-Kātyāyana was coming, and she sat with her hand on her cheek, deep in thought. The Hair Woman saw her mother sitting like that, and after seeing her, she said, 'Mother, why are you sitting with your hand on your cheek, deep in thought?' She said, 'Daughter, the Venerable Mahā-Kātyāyana, your father's friend, is staying not far from here and intends to go to Rajagriha, but your father has passed away. Our household situation has become such that we cannot even offer a few days' alms to those who come after a long time.' She said, 'Mother, if that is the case, the teacher of dancers offered to buy my hair for a thousand karshapanas, so sell it to him and offer alms to the Venerable Mahā-Kātyāyana. My hair will grow again, so do not grieve.' Hearing her daughter's words born of faith, she said, 'Daughter, very well, let it be done.' Then she went to where the teacher of dancers was and said, 'Teacher, if you will pay a thousand karshapanas for my daughter's hair, then take it and give me a thousand karshapanas.' He said, 'Sister, at that time I needed those things, but now I do not need them, but'
