Having understood the earth and its nature, and realizing the Four Noble Truths, he preached the Dharma in such a way. Having heard this, the upright Narada destroyed the twenty high peaks of the mountain of viewing the destructible aggregates with the vajra of wisdom, and thus realized the fruit of entering the stream. Having seen the truth, he prostrated at the feet and requested, 'Venerable one, if I could be ordained and receive full ordination in the Dharma and Vinaya well-spoken by you, and obtain the status of a Bhikshu, I would like to practice Brahmacharya in the presence of the Bhagavan.' The Bhagavan said, 'Narada, you have promised the Brahmin boy to answer his questions, so go back and fulfill your previous promise first, and then be ordained later.' He requested, 'Venerable one, although I have obtained such a collection of merits, what should I do if I cannot answer those questions?' The Bhagavan said, 'Narada, go and say this, 'For a while, speak those questions.' When he says these words: 'Which master king is, with attachment and with dust? Without dust, then without dust? What is called attachment here? How does a foolish person grieve? How does a wise person rejoice? Separated from what, is it said that this is accomplishment and happiness?' When he says these words, then you say this: 'The sixth master king is, with attachment and with dust, without dust, then without dust, what is called attachment here is a child. A foolish person grieves like that, a wise person rejoices like that, separated from this, it is said that this is accomplishment and happiness.' If he says he doesn't understand, then say to him: 'Knowing the well-spoken words is most precious, hearing and meditation, knowing is most precious. If someone is reckless and careless, then for the one who does not know, hearing is of no great meaning.' If he says, 'Although you speak the Buddha's teachings, the marks are not visible on you. My mind is confused by ignorance, please quickly cut off my doubts,' then cut the grass with your fingernails in front of him. If he says, 'Has the Bhagavan Buddha appeared in the world?'

If asked, "Is there not?" say, "There is." If asked, "Where does he reside?" say, "In the Deer Park spoken of by the sage." O venerable one, seek him out in that way. The son of the lineage, Nalada, having heard as the Blessed One did, went to where the Brahmin boy was, and having arrived, spoke these words to the Brahmin boy: Brahmin boy, please speak those questions for a moment. He spoke in verse: Which is the king of lords? When attached, he is possessed of dust. When without dust, he becomes free from dust. Who here is called attachment? How does the foolish one grieve? How does the wise one rejoice? Who, separated from possession, Is called accomplished and happy? He said: The sixth is the king of lords. When attached, he is possessed of dust. When without dust, he becomes free from dust. When attached, here he is called a child. Thus the foolish one grieves. Thus the wise one rejoices. Separated from this possession, Here he is called accomplished and happy. The Brahmin boy said: Great sage, you have not understood the sign. He said: Well spoken, knowing is precious. Hearing and samadhi, knowing is precious. Whoever is reckless and unrestrained, For the unknowing, hearing is of no great purpose. The Brahmin boy said: Nalada, Although you speak the words of the Buddha, The marks are not visible on you. With my foolish mind, Quickly cut off my doubts about this. Nalada cut the grass with his fingernails in front of him, and he said: Nalada, has the Buddha, the Blessed One, appeared in the world? He said: Brahmin boy, he has appeared. Where does he reside? In this very land of Varanasi. In which direction? In the Deer Park spoken of by the sage. The Brahmin boy thought: If I were to tell him my lineage, he would despise me. However, if I were to go only in the guise of a Brahmin boy, then the Brahmins residing in Varanasi, possessing the three knowledges, or some Brahmin boys born from high lineages, would not believe that they had gone to the Shramana Gautama. If I were to go in my own guise, then I have enmity with many nagas, and some might harm me, so I should not
