If the Blessed One permits, I will hold the festival of the stupa of the venerable Śāriputra. The Blessed One said: 'Householder, please do it!' Just as King Prasenajit of Kosala, the householder Anāthapiṇḍika requested the Blessed One to create the image of the festival of the stupa of the venerable Śāriputra. Hearing that the Blessed One had permitted the construction, he thought: 'I too will help him.' So he proclaimed: 'Wise people residing in Śrāvastī, and people who have come from other places, listen! When the festival of the stupa of the venerable Śāriputra arrives, whoever comes with goods will have no taxes, no barriers, and no boat fees, so please come here freely!' In the meantime, five hundred merchants from the great ocean, having filled a large ship with treasures, went to Śrāvastī. They heard the king proclaim in Śrāvastī: 'Whoever comes with goods when the festival of the stupa of the venerable Śāriputra arrives will have no taxes, no barriers, and no boat fees, so please come here freely!' Hearing this proclamation, they thought: 'Although this king abides in the fruit of his own merit, he cannot be satisfied with merit. Since he is giving alms and doing good deeds, why should I not give alms and do good deeds?' So they felt great joy in their hearts, and during that festival, they offered conch shells, jewels, pearls, and so on. Since the monks did not know how to do it, the Blessed One said: 'All the offerings should be offered to the Buddha image residing in the shade of the jambu tree.' In addition, a small portion should be used to repair the stupa of Śāriputra, and the remainder should be distributed by the Saṃgha. This is not the stupa of the Tathāgata, but the stupa of Śāriputra, so do not regret it. Summary: Talking and remembering, as well as occasion, distinction, and not speaking, entrusting the scriptures and the Uposatha, as well as prohibiting, distinguishing, and establishing what needs to be done.

The Blessed One was dwelling at Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Park. The group of six monks, due to wrong views, wrong hearing, and wrong doubts, discussed other monks. When the monks were discussed due to wrong views, wrong hearing, and wrong doubts, they remained cautiously. Because they remained cautiously, they became thin, emaciated, aged, and their bodies became unsuitable. They lost their ability to preach, recite, chant, meditate, and their inner proper attention. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One considered that the faults arose because the monks held wrong views, wrong hearing, and wrong doubts about other monks and discussed them. Therefore, monks should not discuss other monks with wrong views, wrong hearing, and wrong doubts. If a monk discusses other monks with wrong views, wrong hearing, and wrong doubts, he will commit a serious offense. The ways of discussing include: remembering, distinguishing, not speaking, expelling, stopping the Uposatha, stopping the Pravāraṇā, and so on, which are the same as above. All the verses of the precepts should be recited as before. The verses are: Reciting the name of the Buddha, Do not associate with the venerable ones. Do not trust those with expedient means, The Vinaya is summarized. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Varanasi, in the Deer Park at Isipatana. Then, the Blessed One said to the five monks: Monks, regarding the teachings I had not heard before, when I properly attended to "This is the noble truth of suffering," the eye arose, knowledge, wisdom, clarity, and realization arose. Monks, regarding the teachings I had not heard before, when I properly attended to "This is the origin of suffering, this is the cessation of suffering, this is the path that leads to the cessation of suffering," the eye arose, knowledge, wisdom, clarity, and realization.
