Is it permissible to inspect the bowl? It is not permissible unless the attendant has inspected it with his eyes. Is it permissible to inspect the water that the monks have filtered? It is permissible because it has been inspected by the attendant with his eyes. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. The Blessed One declared that the Sangha who have vowed to observe the summer retreat should spread out a firm mat. King Pasenadi of Kosala heard this and offered a firm mat to the Sangha. Similarly, the queen Phrengdenma, the royal lady Dhyar Tsulma, the householder Anathapindika, the sage Jin, the old ones, the astrologers, and many others offered firm mats. The monks blessed one firm mat and then began to return the remainder to those others. Those people said, "These noble ones, we have offered them to the Sangha, how can we take them back?" At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One. The Blessed One declared, "Therefore, it should be accepted with permission, and having accepted it, many monks who spread carpets should be appointed. Just as it was appointed before, one should be spread out later. The remainder should be left behind. Since this is the gain to be distributed by the Sangha who have vowed to observe the summer retreat, the Sangha who have vowed to observe the summer retreat should gather and distribute it as they please, and there should be no regret." In summary: I have no charity after death, whoever has dedicated it has died, whoever it was entrusted to has died, what has befallen and regret. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden. In Shravasti, there lived a householder who took a wife from the same caste. He played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness together with her. He played, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness, and gradually three sons were born. The youngest of them renounced in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. At another time, he went to travel through the countryside. When he went to travel through the countryside, his father was afflicted with illness, and although he was treated with medicines from roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits, his illness...

Not having attained peace, when he felt that death was approaching, and he would soon die, he gathered his friends, relatives, brothers, and neighbors, and said to his two sons, 'Children, bring everything that is in my house.' They listened to his words and brought everything. He said to his friends, relatives, brothers, and neighbors, 'Wise ones, listen! I have three sons, these two are the elder brothers, and the youngest has become a renunciate in the Shakya order. Therefore, divide everything that is in my house equally among them.' Having said this, he was in accordance with the Dharma of time, saying, 'All accumulation will end, all that is high will fall, all meeting will end in separation, and all living will end in death.' Then, they adorned him with blue, red, yellow, and white cloths, carried him to the charnel ground, and cremated him. His sons performed his funeral rites and mourned. When his son heard that his father had died, he thought, 'I should go and teach the Dharma to my mother and brothers to dispel their sorrow.' So, he stayed in his homeland as long as he wished, then took his alms bowl and robes, and traveled to where Shravasti was. Gradually traveling, he arrived in Shravasti. He left his robes and alms bowl in Jeta Grove, rested from the fatigue of the journey, and then went to his own house. When the family members saw him, they wept. Hearing the weeping, the neighbors gathered, some weeping aloud, and others with tears filling their eyes. Because each person had their own feelings, hearing a large crowd wailing, he was again filled with tears. Then, a neighbor woman said to him, 'Child, do not grieve. Your father has gone to the heavenly realm because of his merit. Your father also gathered his friends, relatives, brothers, and neighbors, and gave you one-third of his wealth.' He thought

The Blessed One said, "Saying 'Give this after I die' is non-existent." Thinking it is like this, I am not sad because of that, but my father worked hard, and tears flowed involuntarily. The Blessed One also said that parents work hard for their children, nurturing, healing, giving birth, and showing all kinds of Jambudvipa. If a son carries his father on one shoulder and his mother on the other, honoring them for a hundred years, or on this great earth, with jewels, pearls, lapis lazuli, mansel, coral, silver, gold, the essence of gems, spuk, padmaraga, right-spiraling conch shells, and so on, making them masters of wealth, even then the son cannot repay the kindness of his parents. If someone can make their parents, from being without faith, take up complete and correct faith, make them rejoice, subdue them, settle them, and settle them well; from being immoral, become complete in morality; from being stingy, become complete in generosity; from being without wisdom, become complete in wisdom, make them rejoice, subdue them, settle them, and settle them well, only then can the son repay the kindness of his parents. The Blessed One also said, "Giving this after I die is not giving," and it was forbidden. That woman sat without saying a word. At that time, the monks asked the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, I did not speak with householders in mind, but with renunciants in mind. Householders will die with attachment, but renunciants will not. Therefore, for householders, if they think, "Give this after I die," that is giving; but for renunciants, it is not, it should be accepted, and after accepting it, it should be fully enjoyed as desired. The story took place in Shravasti. A monk dedicated robes to another monk. After he dedicated those robes, he passed away.
