At one time, the Blessed One was dwelling in the Jeta Grove, in Anathapindika's Park in Sravasti. In Sravasti, a renunciate monk was staying with a young monk. He thought to himself: 'The Blessed One ordains monks and gives them full ordination, but if he does not give them instruction and guidance, it would be better to let them be butchers. Just like a close attendant, who is also a disciple. I think I am also a renunciate, so I should entrust this to some benefactors.' Thinking this, he went to a monk and said: 'Please teach this young monk.' He said: 'If you serve me, I will promise to teach you.' He said: 'Please teach me.' So he began to teach him. After some time, the teacher who was staying there became ill, and he took care of him. After some time, the teacher who was staying there became ill, and he did not look after him again, not even for three times. He said to him: 'Venerable one, go and stay with someone else.' He said: 'Venerable one, I am only with you, and I have no lack at all.' He said: 'Venerable one, it is true that you have no lack, but I am lacking. When you were ill, I took care of you, but when I was ill three times, why did you not look after me? Go and stay with those who give lodging to disrespectful people like you.' He had no courage and sat there without saying a word. At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: 'The resident should serve the teacher.' After some time, a reading teacher became ill, and he did not look after him again. When he recovered, he went to him and said: 'Teacher, please give me the text.' He said: 'Venerable one, when I was ill, you never looked after me. Go and learn from those who allow disrespectful people like you to read.' He had no courage and sat there without saying a word. At that time, the monks reported this to the Blessed One.

After the request, the Blessed One taught: One should respect the teacher of recitation. After the Blessed One said that one should respect the teacher of recitation, after a while, both the teacher of recitation and the teacher of residence passed away, and he did not know which one to respect. At this time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One taught: If possible, respect both. If not, respect the teacher of residence, because it is possible to live without recitation, but it is not possible to live without residence. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika. A person who wanted to be ordained went to a monk, who ordained him and gave him full ordination, and then went on a pilgrimage. If the person who lived with him was attracted by wealth but not by Dharma, he would live elsewhere. The Blessed One spoke of the four objects of attraction: giving, kind speech, beneficial conduct, and common interests. Therefore, he attracted him with Dharma and wealth, so he always looked at that teacher and kept him in mind. After a while, his preceptor, after wandering at will, returned to Shravasti, and after seeing him, all the newly ordained Dharma brothers stood up from their seats, while the older ones treated him with the etiquette of "Welcome." But the one who lived with him did not stand up from his seat, and the monks said to him: Venerable, your preceptor has come, some Dharma brothers have stood up, some have risen to greet him, and some have treated him with the etiquette of "Welcome." It is unreasonable for you to see him and not stand up from your seat. He said: After I was ordained, was I attracted by wealth or by Dharma? What should I remember to stand up for? They said: Venerable, do not say that. The Blessed One also said that one person to another

Relying on the Dharma and Vinaya spoken by the Tathagata, having shaved hair and beard, wearing robes, and with true faith having gone forth from home to homelessness, it is not easy for that person to repay that person for as long as he lives with things like monastic robes, alms, medicine for healing diseases, bedding, and utensils. Didn't he say that? Venerable one, it is not good that you say that. He was without courage and sat without saying anything. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: As soon as the monks who live together and the nearby monks see them, they should rise from their seats. As soon as they see the preceptor, there will be no fixed place to stay. The Blessed One said that as soon as they see the preceptor, there will be no fixed place to stay. And some others, some who cannot live with the preceptor, come, and they stay for a short time and then leave. Some of them are scolded by the preceptor and the disciplinarian. Some are happy. Those who are scolded are not given even the previous fixed place, and they do not collect themselves. Those who are happy collect themselves, so that the previous disciplinarians quarrel, and those who have already left do not collect themselves either. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Everything should be done for those who cannot live together, and everything should be done for the previous disciplinarians, but one should strive to please the minds of both and ask both. If the preceptors are all there in all cases, then ask only him. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, in the Garden of Anathapindika. A monk gave a young man a place to stay, and after half a month, at the time of the Uposatha, he went to him and said: Acharya, I prostrate, please grant, please bless the Uposatha. He said: Good man, how can I become your disciplinarian? He said: I have settled down relying on you.
