One should not stay there, for staying would become a serious offense. If other monks in a certain place, one monk ordains and fully ordains another monk, and then their preceptor passes away, and they do not know how to practice, then everything should be reported to the teacher as before. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At the foot of a certain mountain, a householder had a monastery built, filled it with all necessities, and offered it to the Sangha of monks from the four directions. After some time, the householder was arrested in the royal palace, and the monks heard about it. Having heard this, they abandoned the monastery and fled, and the property of the Three Jewels was stolen by those who take what is not given. After some time, the householder was released. The monks, having heard how the owner of the monastery had been released, went to the householder. The householder had already heard how the monks had abandoned the monastery and fled, and the property of the Three Jewels had been stolen by those who take what is not given, so he rebuked them, saying, "Venerables, why did you flee?" They said, "We heard that you were arrested in the royal palace, and having heard that, we were afraid and fled." "Venerables, even if I was arrested in the royal palace, why did you flee? If my relatives were not arrested, would they not provide you with necessities?" They were speechless and remained silent. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said, "One should not flee in this way, but one should ask the relatives of the owner of the monastery, 'The owner of the monastery has been arrested in the royal palace, can you provide us with the necessities for alms?' If they provide, that is excellent. If they do not provide, then one should beg for alms and stay for five years. After five years, if the owner of the monastery is released, that is excellent. If

If it is not left unattended, then through supplication and two karmas, the surrounding monasteries of that monastery are fully managed, and with common property and separate Uposatha, they should reside for another five years. The karma should be done as follows: In the surrounding monasteries, prepare residences, strike the Ghaṇṭā, and with questioning words, admonish the monks, and when all the Sangha has gathered and is seated, one monk should make a supplication and then perform the karma: "Please listen, venerable Sangha. The owner of such-and-such a great monastery has been seized by the king. If the time of the Sangha has come and it is agreeable, please grant permission to the Sangha, and the Sangha will separate that monastery from these monasteries with common property and separate Uposatha." This is the supplication. The karma should be done as follows: "Please listen, venerable Sangha. The owner of such-and-such a great monastery has been seized by the king. Therefore, if the Sangha separates that monastery from these monasteries with common property and separate Uposatha, those venerable ones who can tolerate the Sangha separating that monastery from these monasteries with common property and separate Uposatha, let them remain silent. Those who cannot tolerate it, let them speak." The Sangha tolerates and grants permission, and the Sangha separates such-and-such a great monastery with common property and separate Uposatha. Since no one speaks in this way, it is regarded as consent. If the owner of the monastery comes within ten years after that, that is good. If he does not come, then in the surrounding monasteries, after placing residences, vessels, and utensils, the inner door should be closed and they should leave. When the owner of the monastery is released, then the items that were placed in the surrounding monasteries should be taken out and given to him. If the monks residing in the surrounding monasteries give them, that is good. If they do not give them, it will become a serious offense. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Anathapindika's Garden. The group of six carried with their bodies.

The Brahmins and householders saw them and mocked, saying: "Venerable ones, we are householders living at home, and for the sake of our parents, children, male servants, female servants, employees, those who live on scraps, kings, gods, the dead, ascetics, and Brahmins, we bear burdens with our bodies. For whose sake do you bear burdens?" When they remained silent, the monks reported this to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: "Monks, it is fitting that the Brahmins and householders mock you. Therefore, a monk should not bear burdens with his body. If a monk bears burdens with his body, he will commit a serious offense." After the Blessed One said that a monk should not bear burdens with his body, the group of six monks began to bear burdens with their backs, waists, chests, and heads, and as a result, they committed the same offense. The Blessed One said: "One should not bear burdens with the back, nor with the waist, nor with the chest, nor with the head. If one bears burdens, one will commit a serious offense." The summary is: dwelling and utensils, six in number, then taking away from that, taking five with greed, cooking, washing, gatehouse, walking place. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was dwelling in Shravasti, in Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. At that time, a Brahmin who wished to renounce went to Jeta's Grove. When he saw many monks carrying alms bowls in their hands, carrying many food scraps, and preparing to go out for alms, he thought: "I will ask them where they are going." So he asked them: "Venerable ones, where are you going?" They said: "Brahmin, we are going for alms." He said: "Venerable ones, do all the monks go for alms?" They said: "Brahmin, for those monks who have patrons, the Brahmins and householders bring food to the monastery and offer it. Those who do not have patrons go for alms." He thought: "What is the difference between the renunciates among the Shakya's sons? I will do the same here."
