He thought: I should go for alms. He also thought: I should ask other monks whether they also live and renounce relying solely on alms, or whether there are other places to live. So he went to a monk, who greeted him with the usual courtesies, saying: Brahmin, where do you come from and why have you come here? He said: Holy One, I have come only to see you, and I would like to ask you what you rely on to live and renounce. He said: Brahmin, well, well! Your idea is good, please sit down and we will talk. The Brahmin who wanted to renounce bowed at his feet and sat down in front of him. He said: Brahmin, these four are the places of residence for monks who have renounced and received full ordination in the Dharma and Vinaya well spoken by the Blessed One. Brahmin, what are the four? The Blessed One said: Monks, among clothes, it is easy to obtain worn-out clothes, and dwelling in them, for a monk who has renounced and received full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, it becomes the requisites of a monk. Among foods, it is alms; among dwellings, it is under a tree; among medicines, it is rotten medicine, these are easy to obtain, and dwelling in them, for a monk who has renounced and received full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, it becomes the requisites of a monk. Brahmin, these four are the places of residence prescribed for us by the Blessed One, and dwelling in them, we renounce and receive full ordination in the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya, becoming the requisites of a monk. The Brahmin said: Holy One, who can live relying on these places? I came here intending to renounce, but it seems that renunciation is also a difficult thing, I bow to you and take my leave. Having said this, he left. He became an obstacle to renunciation and receiving full ordination as the requisites of a monk. At that time, the monks reported this matter to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One thought about it and said: Monks, any small fault that occurs is only because the monks have not renounced.

arises from the statement of the four places. Therefore, a bhikshu should not declare the four places to one who is not ordained or not fully ordained. When one is ordained and fully ordained, then the four places should be declared. Declaring the four places to one who is not ordained and not fully ordained becomes a serious offense. The story begins in Shravasti. In Shravasti, a householder took a wife from the same clan and played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness. He played, rejoiced, and enjoyed happiness, and so on, as before. He named her according to her lineage, raised her, and she grew up. Then, at another time, he was scolded by his father, and he thought: My father is difficult to please, so I will go to Jeta Grove and become a monk. So he went to Jeta Grove. The practice of the Six Groups is that any of the Six Groups would keep the gate of Jeta Grove from being empty. The venerable Nanda, who was sitting at the gate, saw him and said: Welcome, handsome one! You are like the moon, you have been away for a long time, where have you come from? He said: Venerable, it is good to see you after a long time, but to see you again and again would be contemptuous. However, Venerable, I wish to be ordained, please ordain me. Handsome one! Your intention is good, ordination is excellent. The Blessed One, seeing the five benefits, the wise should rejoice in the reason for ordination, and so on, up to the Buddhas and the noble disciples of the Buddhas, the noble beings who have entered correctly, and so on, as before. Therefore, well then! Please ordain me. Even so, this requires six things, do you have six things? Venerable, what are those six things? Handsome one! A begging bowl, a water strainer, three Dharma robes, and a mat. Venerable, I do not have them. Handsome one! I do not have them either, wait a moment, and I will look for the six things. He left his father and went to his relatives, and when they heard how the boy was going to be ordained, they...

He took his wife. The venerable Nanda placed the six requisites and entered Shravasti for alms. He saw that boy on the street. He said: Good-looking one, I have found those six requisites, come and renounce. He said: Venerable one, I have also found six requisites. Good-looking one, what are they like? Venerable one, they are the eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. Good-looking one, what is that word? Venerable one, my relatives have taken wives, can I still renounce? Just like that, he renounced and took full ordination, becoming an obstacle to the possessions of a monk. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, therefore, allow the six requisites to be discarded, and then one should renounce and take full ordination. In the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya, renouncing and taking full ordination, the possessions of a monk are difficult to obtain, therefore, after searching for the six requisites in order, what was discarded should be given back again. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. At that time, many monks were wandering and begging for food, and were defeated by thieves, and the things they had stolen were taken to Jeta Grove and began to be sold there. Those defeated monks also came there, and those monks recognized their own alms bowls and robes, and they made a loud noise, saying: Knowledgeable ones, these people have stolen our alms bowls and robes. Catch the thieves, catch the thieves! They heard the noise and fled in fear. The monks took back their respective alms bowls and robes and sat down, not knowing whether this was permissible for us or not. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: It belongs to whoever stole it, do not threaten them. The Blessed One said that it belongs to whoever stole it. Other monks were wandering and begging for food, and were seen by thieves, and they began to defeat those monks, they those monks
