When the prince was painting in Jeta Grove, some monks without mindfulness lit a fire there, and the smoke ruined the painting. At that time, the monks pleaded with the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: Monks, I allow a fire room, whichever monk needs a fire should light a fire in the fire room, but not in the monastery. If a fire is lit in the monastery, it will be a serious offense. The Blessed One said to allow lighting a fire in the fire room, but not in the monastery. Other sick monks were there, and they were scorched by the fire. The Blessed One said: Those sick monks who are scorched by the fire can light a fire outside the monastery or by the pond, and put smokeless charcoal inside. The monks were bathing in the monastery and dirtying the painting. The Blessed One said: One should not bathe in the monastery, but one can bathe in a corner of the pond, in a place not seen by the teacher, or build a bathroom and bathe there. It became muddy. The Blessed One said: A brick floor should be laid there. Water accumulated, and the Blessed One said: A drain should be dug. After the Blessed One said that a drain should be dug, the mouth of the drain was blocked. The Blessed One said: It should be cleaned from time to time, and one should bathe at the mouth of the drain. The Buddha, the Blessed One, was staying in Jeta Grove in Shravasti, in the Anathapindika's Garden. In Shravasti, a Brahmin's son became ill, and he went to a doctor and said: May it be auspicious! May it be auspicious! The doctor said: Sir, what do you wish to say? He said: Alas, I do not want any good deeds, but my son is afflicted with this disease, please give me some medicine! That doctor was a faithful person, and he said: Brahmin, go to those noble Brahmins, beg for water in a bowl, and bathe with it and you will be healed. That Brahmin said may it be auspicious and left, and went to Jeta Grove. The group of six monks...

Their usual practice was that none of the six groups would leave the gate of Jeta Grove empty. Then, the venerable Nanda, lingering at the gate of Jeta Grove, saw the Brahmin and said: "Great Brahmin, welcome, welcome! You are abiding like the moon, it has been a long time, where do you come from? I pay homage to the noble one! It is good to see you after a long time, but seeing you again and again will be despised. What do you need to come for?" "Noble one, my son has a serious illness, and the doctor instructed that taking water from the alms bowl from the noble ones and washing with it will heal him. Therefore, I have come here to beg for water from the alms bowl, please grant it to me!" He said: "Are you coming here for the water from the alms bowl?" "Noble one, that is so, that is what I need." "If that is so, please wait, and I will fetch the water from the alms bowl." Having said that, he went inside. After he had eaten, he washed the alms bowl and poured into it bones, pieces of meat, fish bones, remnants of grains, flour, salt, and a little sour stuff. Then he came out and said: "Brahmin, take this water from the alms bowl!" The Brahmin saw it and said: "Noble one, it is not right to bathe my son with such unclean water like corpse washing liquid." The venerable Nanda said: "Because you have such faith, your son will surely be healed." That Brahmin began to mock. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One thought: "The reason for the slight fault that occurred is that the monks discard the leftovers from the alms bowl. Therefore, monks should not discard the leftovers from the alms bowl." After thinking this, he said to the monks: "Monks, therefore, monks should not discard the leftovers from the alms bowl. If they discard it, they will commit a serious offense. However, I should establish a code of conduct for monks giving water from the alms bowl, that is, when a monk gives water from the alms bowl, he should wash the alms bowl three times, and the water in the alms bowl should be clean."

It should be praised and given with verses of eulogy. If a monk gives water from his bowl, he should properly receive and practice the Dharma of universal use as it has been established. If he does not, it becomes a serious offense. The Buddha Bhagavan was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Prince Jeta, in the Garden of Anathapindika. Monks, Brahmins, and householders saw monks eating with their feet on the base of their bowls. They said: "The Shakyaputra monks are unclean, eating with their feet on the base of their bowls." The monks reported this to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said: "Monks, the Brahmins and householders' criticism is justified. Therefore, a monk should not eat with his feet on the base of his bowl. If a monk eats with his feet on the base of his bowl, it becomes a serious offense." The Buddha Bhagavan was staying in Vaishali, in the multi-storied pavilion by the Monkey Pond. Monks, Brahmins, and householders saw monks eating without taking off their shoes. They said: "The Shakyaputra monks are unclean, eating without taking off their shoes." The monks reported this to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said: "Monks, the Brahmins and householders' criticism is justified. Therefore, a monk should not eat without taking off his shoes. If a monk eats without taking off his shoes, it becomes a serious offense. After the Bhagavan said that a monk should not eat without taking off his shoes, the monks began to take off their shoes to eat. However, they became ill as a result. The monks reported this to the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said: "Those who are sick may eat without taking off their shoes, and should not regret this." Summary: Without a bowl and fame, and those in retreat and those without a dwelling, what is obtained in five years is one, chest, back, waist, head.
