The king moved, and the slave said to the servant: Servant, is the god asleep? The servant said: Asleep. When the king heard this, he thought, no doubt, these two want to say some secret words. 我们两个想出一个办法来布施。过了一段时间，给孤独长者去了国王那里。一个小童给他铺好座位，心想时间到了他会来的，就出来和孩子们一起玩耍。国王知道他走了，心想：这两个人想办法布施的时候就是现在了。于是他偷偷地告诉守门人：给孤独长者的小孩出来后，不要让他进来。守门人就没有让他进去。给孤独长者准备离开，从座位上站起来，互相观望。国王说：长者，怎么样，是求座位的孩子吗？他说：长者，我把仆人和照料者两个布施了，拿走走吧。他在国王面前答应了，心想：为什么天神把仆人和照料者两个给我呢？又想：这两个是罪恶的见解者，天神是想观察我吧。于是他把他们两个带回家，叫来管家说：喂，这个人想要什么，你都给他们。然后到街上对众人说：仆人和照料者要什么，你们都给他们，价钱也记下来，我给双倍。他们从管家手里得到了他们所要的任何一点东西，他们高兴地说：喂，这个人，我们所要的任何东西你都给我们，谁会吩咐你呢？他说：是长者这样吩咐我的。他们想：长者就像我们的父母一样，我们所要的都能得到。又过了一段时间，他们到街上去了，众人大声叫喊着布施给他们。有些人说：从我们这里拿走仆人吧。另一些人也说：从我们这里拿走吧。他们说：有知识的人啊，你们以前看到我们都藏起来，现在大声叫喊着给，这是什么原因呢？他们说：以前你们抢夺并吃掉，现在长者给双倍的价钱。

We two will devise a method to give alms. After some time, Anathapindika went to the king. A young boy spread out his seat, thinking that he would come when the time was right, and then went out to play with the children. The king, knowing that he had left, thought: The time for these two to devise a method to give alms is now. So he secretly told the gatekeeper: Do not let the child of Anathapindika who has gone out come in. The gatekeeper did not let him in. Anathapindika prepared to leave, stood up from his seat, and looked at each other. The king said: Householder, what about the boy who seeks a seat? He said: Householder, I give away the servant and the caretaker, take them and go. He agreed before the king, and thought: Why did the gods give me the servant and the caretaker? He also thought: These two are of sinful views, the gods want to observe me. So he took them both home, called the steward and said: Hey, give them everything they want. Then he went to the street and said to the crowd: Give the servant and the caretaker whatever they want, and also write down the price, and I will give double. They got everything they asked for from the steward's hand, and they happily said: Hey, man, if you give us everything we ask for, who will order you? He said: The householder ordered me to do so. They thought: The householder is like our parents, we can get whatever we ask for. After some time, they went to the street, and the crowd shouted and gave alms to them. Some said: Take the servant from us. Others also said: Take it from us. They said: Knowledgeable ones, if you saw us before, you would hide us, but now you shout and give, what is the reason for this? When they arrived there and did a little work, the householder said, "Servants and caretakers, I have something to do, you go to the Jeta Grove side!" They began to sweep, and the Blessed One blessed the brooms so that they would never run out. Because of their closeness to the Teacher (the Buddha), they reluctantly did not leave. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda, "Ananda, leave the leftovers from the alms bowl for the servants and caretakers!" Ananda left the leftovers from the alms bowl for them. They discarded the brooms, but found that the brooms were inexhaustible, so they continued to work until dusk. Then, the Blessed One said to the Venerable Ananda, "Ananda, summon the servants and caretakers to me! I have also told the monks that you should not be complacent in good deeds, but should dwell repenting of your sins. However, it is necessary to change the views of the servants and caretakers, so whichever of you has attained the samadhi of abiding, use that samadhi of abiding to help them!" The Venerable Ananda replied, "Venerable One, I will do so." He listened to the teachings of the Blessed One and said to the servants and caretakers, "You rest here with me!" He also said to the monks, "Venerable ones, the Blessed One has said that you should not be complacent in good deeds, but should dwell repenting of your sins. However, it is necessary to change the views of the servants and caretakers, so whichever of you has attained the samadhi of abiding, use that samadhi of abiding to help them!" Thus he spoke. The Venerable Ananda replied, "Venerable One, I will do as the Blessed One has said."
