In order to show the means of accumulating merit to sentient beings who desire land, the Blessed One himself took up a broom and began to sweep the Jeta Grove. Seeing the Blessed One, the great disciples Shariputra, Maudgalyayana, Kashyapa, Ananda, Naga, and others also joined in the sweeping. Then, after sweeping the Jeta Grove together with the great disciples, they went to the place of service and sat on the seats that had been prepared in the midst of the Sangha of monks. Having sat down, the Blessed One addressed the monks: "Monks, there are five benefits to sweeping. What are the five? It makes one's own mind clear, it makes the minds of others clear, it makes the gods rejoice, it becomes a beautiful root of virtue, and after death, one is reborn in a happy realm, rising into the heavens." Then, the householder Anathapindika also went in that direction. Then, Anathapindika heard how the Blessed One and the great disciples were sweeping the grove together, and he thought: "How should I go to the place where the Blessed One and the great disciples are sweeping together?" Then, the householder Anathapindika felt ashamed, and with shame in his heart, he remained there. The Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, ask questions even though they know, so the Blessed One asked the monks: "Monks, who is that?" The monks replied: "It is Anathapindika, who feels ashamed to walk in the place where the Blessed One and the great disciples are sweeping together, and so he does not dare to come before the Blessed One." Then, the Blessed One said to him: "Householder, the Buddha's teachings should be recited and practiced. For the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, respect the Dharma, and the Dharma is also the teacher of the Arhats." Then, Anathapindika recited verses and came near to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One taught him with words that were in accordance with the Dharma, made him accept it, and also made him

He praised perfectly and rejoiced perfectly. The Blessed One perfectly instructed him with Dharma-related speech, caused him to perfectly receive it, perfectly praised him, and having made him perfectly rejoice, he departed. The monks, having arisen in doubt, in order to cut off all doubts, asked the Buddha, the Blessed One: "Venerable Blessed One, it is wonderful that he has developed respect for the Dharma and praises the Dharma with reverence." The Blessed One said: "Monks, it is not so wonderful that the Thus-Gone One is now free from desire, free from hatred, free from delusion, and free from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, completely liberated, all-knowing, possessing all forms of knowledge, having obtained mastery over all knowable things through wisdom, and therefore develops respect for the Dharma and praises the Dharma with reverence. In the past, when I was still full of desire, full of hatred, full of delusion, and not completely liberated from birth, old age, sickness, death, sorrow, lamentation, suffering, displeasure, and turmoil, I gave up my life for the sake of the Dharma. Listen well and keep it in mind!" Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi, there was a king named Brahma-datta who ruled the kingdom. The kingdom was prosperous, flourishing, peaceful, and bountiful, filled with people and a large population, without fighting, disputes, conflicts, or disturbances, without thieves, and abundant in rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffalo. He was a king of Dharma, in accordance with Dharma, and ruled the country according to Dharma. That king was also faithful, with good virtuous thoughts, engaged in benefiting himself and others, compassionate, great, desiring Dharma, loving beings, completely giving all, completely bestowing all, and engaged in great giving. At that time, he was playing and enjoying himself with a virtuous queen.

Da. He indulged in play and amusement. He played and rejoiced, and because of his play and amusement, the queen conceived a being. She developed a desire to hear the well-spoken words. She spoke to the king. The king summoned the soothsayers and inquired, and they said: "This is the power of the divine being!" Then, for the sake of the well-spoken words, the king offered a hundred thousand gold coins and searched through towns, cities, villages, and around the royal palace, but he could not find the well-spoken words. In due course, after nine months had passed, the queen gave birth to a handsome boy. He was lovely to look at, beautiful, with a golden complexion. His head was like an umbrella, his arms were long, his forehead was broad, his eyebrows were arched, his nose was high, and he possessed all the limbs and minor marks. On the twenty-first day, a grand birth celebration was held for him, and they proceeded to name the boy. The ministers said: "For the sake of which deity has this boy been searching for the well-spoken words since his birth? Therefore, let the boy's name be 'Search for the Well-Spoken,'" and he was named 'Search for the Well-Spoken.' The boy 'Search for the Well-Spoken' was entrusted to eight nurses: two to nurture him on their laps, two to nurse him, two to wipe away his impurities, and two to be his playmates. These eight nurses raised him with milk, yogurt, fresh butter, clarified butter, the essence of butter, and various other essential items, and he grew rapidly like a lotus in a pond. When he grew up, he still could not find the well-spoken words. After his father passed away, he was placed on the throne, and he said to the ministers: "O lords, I need the well-spoken words, so please search for them!" Then, those ministers offered a hundred thousand gold coins and searched throughout the towns, cities, villages, and around the royal palace of the entire Jambudvipa, but they could not find the well-spoken words. Then, they reported this to the king. Then, the king became utterly consumed with longing to hear the well-spoken words. The wisdom of Indra, the lord of the gods.
