This is a variety of rotten things; this is the source of such things. The sinful body is a great fear; it should be known as like an enemy. Just like an old city, the rotten body is weak. Conditioned things, day and night, are utterly destroyed and intensely ruined. The city has walls of bones, plastered and adorned with flesh and blood. In it arise desire, hatred, and ignorance, as well as concealment. The city has walls of bones, plastered with flesh and blood. Both inside and out, it is constantly tormented by unfriendliness. The Blessed One spoke thus, and the venerable Ananda and the five hundred monks rejoiced and praised what the Blessed One had said. Then, the Blessed One instructed the venerable Ananda on entering the womb, liberated him from the wilderness of samsara, and placed him in the utterly ultimate accomplishment and the bliss of nirvana. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, among my monks who are best at guarding the doors of the senses, this is the foremost, namely the monk Ananda. Then, the venerable Ananda, having attained the state of an Arhat, experiencing the joy and bliss of liberation, at that time spoke in verse: Hot baths, food, and the application of oil, and being covered with umbrellas, I experienced much happiness. The monks arose with doubts and inquired of the Buddha, the Blessed One, who cuts off all doubts: Venerable one, what deeds did the venerable Ananda perform that, as a result of the maturation of those deeds, his body has become like the color of gold and is adorned with the thirty-two major marks of a great being? The Blessed One's toes are shorter by four fingers, and because of excessive attachment to desires, the Blessed One forcefully separated him and liberated him from the wilderness of samsara, placing him in the utterly ultimate accomplishment and the bliss of nirvana. The Blessed One said: Monks, Ananda himself has done and accumulated the deeds, obtained the assembly, transformed the conditions, is near like a tiger, it is certain. How could someone else experience the deeds done and accumulated by Ananda himself?

Bhikkhus, deeds done and accumulated do not mature in the external realm of earth, nor in the realm of water, nor in the realm of fire, nor in the realm of wind. However, good and bad deeds, done and accumulated, will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. Even through hundreds of thousands of kalpas, deeds will not be wasted. When they gather and the time arrives, they will ripen into fruition for sentient beings. Bhikkhus, in the past, when the life expectancy of beings was eighty thousand years, the teacher, the Buddha, the Bhagavan, endowed with knowledge and conduct, the Sugata, the Knower of the World, the unsurpassed tamer of beings, the teacher of gods and humans, named Vipashyin, appeared in the human world. He traveled with a retinue of sixty-two hundred thousand bhikkhus and arrived at the royal palace of Bandhumatī, residing in the Bandhumatī grove. His younger brother from the right side of the family was extremely attached to desires, but the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin forcefully separated him, liberated him from the prison of samsara, and placed him in the ultimate attainment and the bliss of nirvana. At that time, in the royal palace of Bandhumatī, a king named Bandhumatī ruled the kingdom. The kingdom was prosperous, flourishing, peaceful, and bountiful, filled with people and many inhabitants, with strife, disputes, conflicts, and disturbances pacified, free from thieves and diseases, abundant in rice, sugarcane, cattle, and buffaloes. The king of Dharma, in accordance with Dharma, ruled according to Dharma. His younger brother from the right side of the family was extremely attached to desires. King Bandhumatī heard that the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin, with a retinue of sixty-two hundred thousand bhikkhus, had come here and was residing in the Bandhumatī grove. Having heard this, he, together with his retinue of consorts, young men, ministers, and the people of the city, went to where the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin was. There, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipashyin

Having heard of a certain place, the king, along with his queen's entourage, young people, ministers, and townspeople, were taught the Dharma in such a way that they obtained great benefits. The younger brother of his right-hand neighbor, being exceedingly attached to desires, had not renounced the household life. The sons of ministers, the sons of guides, and other young friends urged him, saying, "Friend, the king, along with his queen's entourage, young people, ministers, and townspeople, have gone to see the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin. You, having obtained such a rare and exceedingly difficult human existence, are so attached to desires and have not renounced the household life." Having been admonished by them, he felt ashamed in his heart and went with them to where the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin was. When the younger brother of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin saw them leading him along, he asked, "Why are you leading him along like this?" They explained to him in detail what had happened. He said, "Wise ones, I am also the younger brother of the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin, and I was similarly exceedingly attached to desires. But the Blessed One, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin, forcibly separated me from the wilderness of samsara and placed me in the utterly ultimate attainment and the bliss of nirvana. Therefore, some foolish people must be treated in this way. It is good that you have brought him here. Now, lead him before the Blessed One, and he will undoubtedly gain faith in the Blessed One." When they led him before the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin, the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin also taught him such Dharma. Having heard it, he gained faith in the Tathagata Vipaśyin, and rising from his seat, he draped his upper robe over one shoulder, bowed with his palms joined towards where the perfectly enlightened Buddha Vipaśyin was, and towards the perfectly enlightened
