The venerable ones replied: I am not well, I am ill. What is wrong with you, venerable? The venerable ones replied: I have a cold. Venerable, please take some medicine. The venerable ones replied: I have previously done the work of nasal instillation. Venerable, why don't you do it? The Bhagavan has not permitted it. At that time, the monks requested the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan said: Therefore, I permit the work of nasal instillation to be done. After the Bhagavan said that the work of nasal instillation could be done, the monks instilled the nose as they did at first. The Bhagavan said: It should not be instilled in that way. The monks made a funnel out of leaves and instilled it, and the same fault occurred. The Bhagavan said: It should not be instilled with a funnel made of leaves. The monks instilled it with the edge of the Dharma robe, and the same fault occurred. The Bhagavan said: It should not be instilled with the edge of the Dharma robe, but it should be instilled with a nasal instillation instrument. The monks made a nasal instillation instrument with one spout, and the Bhagavan said: A nasal instillation instrument with two spouts should be made. The monks made sharp spouts, and the Bhagavan said: Sharp spouts should not be made. The monks instilled without washing their hands, and the Bhagavan said: The hands should be washed clean, and it should be given and received before instilling.
