They were killed in this way. Therefore, may we also be born in a place where these beings are killed without any fault or harm. Monks, what do you think? Who were those two fish? They were none other than Āryajanman and Māra-harm. Who were those five hundred fishermen? They were none other than these five hundred Śākyas, because of the ripening of the karma of those two killing those fish in that way, now Āryajanman and Māra-harm have become Śākyas, and they are being killed while being pressed down by iron hooks and crying out. Who was that fisherman's son? It was I myself, at that time, at that moment, it was him, because when I killed the fish, I generated great joy, and that karma ripened, now even though I have attained complete perfect enlightenment, I am being afflicted by a severe headache. If I had not obtained such a collection of qualities, I would also obtain such karma. Monks, also listen to the karma that the Śākyas who lived in Kapilavastu (ser skya) committed. Monks, in the past, five hundred robbers robbed those who were walking on the road, took the stolen goods, and fled to a mountain cliff. They robbed all the people who lived on the mountain cliff. Two householders climbed onto the roof and lived there, and the robbers said: Wise men, drive away those who climb up here, otherwise you will all be left with nothing. The two said: As long as we live, we will not come down. They cut down a lot of grass and trees and set fire to the roof, and the two were tormented by the heat, and they generated such a thought: We have no fault, nor have we caused any harm, but we are being killed by these people, may we also kill these people, so that they also have no fault, nor have they caused any harm. Monks, what do you think? Who were those two householders? They were none other than Āryajanman and Māra-harm. Who were those five hundred cunning people? They were none other than these five hundred Śākyas, because these people

Having become thieves, those people were also without fault. Without having caused harm, it was the maturation of the karma of separating from life. Now, the Accomplished One, relying on the harm to his mother, killed five hundred Shakyas. They were also without fault, without having caused harm, but were separated from life. Monks, therefore, the maturation of black karma is also black, and the maturation of white karma is also white, and the maturation of mixed karma is also mixed. Monks, therefore, having abandoned black karma and mixed karma, one should strive for white karma. Monks should train in this way. The Accomplished One, having killed the Shakyas in that way, went to Shravasti. Having entered the city, the young prince, Prince Victory, went to the palace on the top floor and played with music without restraint. He rejoiced and indulged in pleasure. The Accomplished One heard of it and said, "Wise ones, who is playing?" The ministers said, "It is the young Prince Victory." He said, "Wise ones, call him here." When they had called him, the Accomplished One said, "Prince Victory, I have come after killing, and you are playing?" He said, "Who are the enemies of the gods?" "The Shakyas." "If the Shakyas are your enemies, then who are your friends?" He said, "Wise ones, this one is also on their side, he should be killed." Having said that, they killed him, and having passed away, he was born among the thirty-three gods. Before the sound of his human music had ceased, the sound of the gods arose. Then the Blessed One spoke these verses about what had happened: The one who has done merit rejoices here, rejoices in the future. Rejoicing in both, seeing the maturation of his own deeds, he rejoices greatly. Having gone to a good destination, he rejoices again. The one who has done merit is pleased here, is pleased in the future. Pleased in both, seeing the maturation of his own deeds, he is very pleased. Having gone to a good destination, he is pleased again. Then the venerable Ananda said to the Blessed One, "Venerable, these verses"

The meaning of this is not fully understood. The Blessed One said: Ananda, the young king Victorious, without fault or harm, the foolish Arya-born one died, and before the sound of human music had ceased, the music of the gods arose. Thinking about this, I said: The one who has done good deeds rejoices in this life, and rejoices in the next. From this sentence to: Having gone to a good destination, one rejoices after death. After saying this, he sat there without saying a word. After some time, the Arya-born one boasted and showed off among the retinue of consorts, arrogant, powerful, brave, diligent, and said: Those who can suppress others, I have completely destroyed them, who is like me? Then, the Arya-born one led five hundred Shakya women, who also said in verses: Who have you destroyed? They are the sons of the prince Shakya, bound by the precepts. What are you saying here? After they said this, he angrily ordered the ministers in verses: If you kill the dragons, the daughters of the dragons, like being filled with poison and covered with clouds. Cut off the feet and hands of these people, and quickly chase after their relatives. The ministers cut off the hands and feet of the five hundred Shakya women by the pond full of red flowers. Therefore, this place is called the "Pit of Hands", and the permanent residents also wrote at the beginning of the sutra: The Blessed One was in Shravasti, living by the pond of the Pit of Hands. It is written like this. Vinaya Miscellaneous Matters, Volume Nine. When they were experiencing unbearable suffering, rough, hot, and unpleasant feelings, they thought: We have become so unbearable, fearful, and afraid, didn't the Blessed One think of us? At such a time, the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, do not have anything they do not know, do not see, do not understand, or cannot fully know. Then, driven by great compassion, the Blessed One went in that direction, and soon saw that all those women were sitting naked. After seeing them,
