I said to the Blessed One: "O Gautama, for what reason does the foolish noble-born man separate from life the Shakya people living in Kapilavastu, who have no faults and have done no harm? This creates many non-merits." The Blessed One said: "Brahmin, it is so, it is so. Because the foolish noble-born man separates from life the Shakya people living in Kapilavastu, who have no faults and have done no harm, this creates many non-merits." Then, the Blessed One went to the garden of the other heretical wanderers, the place of the sow. There, the Shakya people living in Kapilavastu, who had been combed with iron combs and had only a little life remaining, saw the Blessed One and uttered evil sounds. Then, the Blessed One went to one side and sat down on the prepared seat. After sitting down, the Blessed One said to the monks: "Monks, these Shakya people living in Kapilavastu have uttered great sounds this time and three times before. Before, when they were fishermen, it was to catch fish; when they were thieves, it was to destroy villages; now, when they are the Shakya people living in Kapilavastu, the foolish noble-born man has left them with only a little life remaining, facing death. There is no difference, thought, or distinction in the outburst of all of these, they are all the same. Monks, what do you think? Does this butcher, through that work, that craft, and that way of life, go riding on an elephant, or riding on a horse, or riding in a chariot, or going with a small army, or accumulating a great amount of wealth and living there? Have you seen or heard of it?" The monks replied, "No, Blessed One." Monks, well done! Well done! I also, this butcher, from that work until accumulating a great amount of wealth and living there, as before, have not seen or heard of it. Why is that? Because these butchers think with sinful thoughts, therefore this

Or going by riding an elephant, or going by riding a horse, or going by riding a vehicle, or even going with a small troop, and also will not accumulate a great heap of wealth and dwell. Furthermore, monks, what do you think? Do you kill crows? Do you kill pigs? Are you a fisherman? Do you hunt wild animals? Do you trade birds? Do you raise donkeys? From those who slaughter cattle, from that called 'that' until accumulating a great heap of wealth and dwelling, have you seen that? Have you heard it? Just like before. Why is that? Because like this cattle slaughterer, he contemplates with a sinful thought, therefore he will not go by riding an elephant, just like before, until accumulating a great heap of wealth and dwelling. Monks, even for a moment, even the sentient beings who have gone to the animal realm, if they also contemplate with a sinful thought, they will not go by riding an elephant, or go by riding a horse, or go by riding a vehicle, or even go with a small troop, and also will not accumulate a great heap of wealth and dwell, let alone a foolish ordinary person, saying 'learn', like being destroyed by the glory of discipline, going by riding an elephant, or going by riding a horse, or going by riding a vehicle, or even going with a small troop, accumulating a great heap of wealth and dwelling, what need is there to say? That is impossible. Monks, this lineage of Kosala will be cut off in seven days from now, like being watched by a snake. A foolish ordinary person will also harm his mother, and in seven days will be burned by fire, and while crying out, will be born in the great Avici hell. Monks, therefore, one should train like this: if one does not even have ill will towards a burnt piece of wood, what need is there to mention a body with consciousness? Monks, you should train like that. The monks arose with doubt, and in order to cut off all doubts, they asked the Blessed One, the Buddha. Venerable, these five hundred Shakyas

What karma did these people commit? The maturation of that karma, there was neither fault nor harm, yet foolish ordinary people took their lives. World Honored One, when the Shakyas were killed, you also suffered a severe illness. The World Honored One said: Bhikshus, these are precisely the karmas I have done and accumulated, gathered, obtained opportunity, the conditions have matured, abiding like a hero, they will not occur in vain. These, the karmas I have done and accumulated, who else will experience them? Bhikshus, the karmas done and accumulated will not mature in the external realm of earth, not in the realm of water, not in the realm of fire, not in the realm of wind. However, the virtuous and non-virtuous karmas done and accumulated will only mature in the aggregates, realms, and sources that are grasped. Even in hundreds of thousands of kalpas, karmas will not be wasted, when gathered and the time has come, they will ripen into fruit for sentient beings. Bhikshus, in the past, five hundred fishermen lived by a river. They saw two fish swimming in the great ocean, entering that river, they were very happy and caught them with a large fishing net. Seeing the bodies of those two fish, they began to discuss: Wise ones, what should we do about this? These fish are very large, if we kill them, the meat will not rot, it will spoil. Then some said: What is there to do about this? Kill one, and pickle the other to keep it. Others said: This one is also big, this one will also not rot, tie it to a tree and cut off the meat alive and sell it. They said: Good, let's do that. They began to do so, and when they were cutting like that, they began to cry out in their own language. That discomfort, a fisherman's child heard it and was very happy. Then, when those two fish were being cut like that, they generated this kind of thought: We have neither fault nor caused harm, yet these people...
