Now, even if one practices celibacy for a lifetime, one will not gain any accumulation of merit. With this root of virtue, may I, through the prophecy of the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha of Radiance, be able to say to the Brahmin youth: 'Brahmin youth, if you live to be a hundred years old, you will become the Tathagata, Arhat, perfectly complete Buddha Shakyamuni.' Having heard these words of prophecy, may I renounce, abandon all defilements, and directly realize the state of Arhat. Just as my preceptor, the Bhagavan, the perfectly complete Buddha of Radiance, is shown to be supreme among those who have faith in remote places, may I also, like the great king of the Shakyas, Shakyamuni, become supreme among those who have faith in remote places. Due to the power of this aspiration I have made, now the Tathagata is shown to be supreme among those who have faith in remote places. Monks, therefore, the ripening of purely black actions is purely black, the ripening of purely white actions is purely white, and the ripening of mixed actions is mixed. Monks, therefore, having abandoned purely black and mixed actions, one should strive to perform purely white actions. Monks should train themselves in this way. The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. The group of six monks were saying, "Give me this! Give me that!" They were picking and choosing their food, and the offerings became chaotic. At that time, the monks reported this to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed them, "Monks should not pick and choose their food; if they do, they will incur a grave offense." The Buddha Bhagavan was dwelling in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove, Anathapindika's Garden. When the monks were eating, they picked up their bowls, but the bowls fell from the bowl stands, and fell into the bowls. They regretted this and did not eat. At that time, the monks reported this to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan

The Tathagata said: Monks, when taking a bowl, if it falls on the bowl stand, it is called giving and receiving. Picking up the bowl stand, if it falls into the bowl, it is called giving and receiving. Picking up the bowl, if it falls into the bowl, it is called giving and receiving. Picking up the bowl stand, if it falls into the bowl stand, it is called giving and receiving. However, the mind of giving and receiving should be placed nearby. The Buddha, the World Honored One, was staying in Shravasti, in the Jeta Grove of Anathapindika's Garden in the park of Prince Jeta. The Venerable Ananda went to the potter and said to him: Good face, can you make a pottery bowl? He said: Holy One, this is my craft. What size should I make it? Make it bigger. Holy One, what do you need such a big pottery bowl for? Miser! Do you think I would let you do it for nothing? I will give you according to the value, do it. He thought: How much clay should I put in? Okay. Thinking, he made him a very large pottery bowl. He said: Make another one that can fit inside this one. He made another one. In this way, he made seven of them. The Venerable Ananda had the novice put them in, made a net out of five-colored silk thread, put them in, arranged them in order, put them on the novice's head, and went to the place where he was invited. After arriving, he spread them out and sat down. The householders and Brahmins said: Holy One, are you displaying the potter's goods? He said: Miser! What do you know? Here, take some flour for now. Here, take some oil cakes. Here, take some rice. In other places, take some vegetables. They said: Holy One, if that is the case, alas! Sometimes a lot of vegetables come, and others also need to be placed nearby. After saying that, he didn't say a word. At that time, the monks reported to the World Honored One, and the World Honored One thought: What fault has occurred?
