Furthermore, some said, "It has been a long time since we bathed, we should bathe." So they released those (animals), dragging them with pumice stones, dragging them, and began to bathe. Those skilled in crafts and occupations, the sounds they made while bathing were pleasing to the ear, like a skilled person playing a five-stringed lute. Many people passing by on that road, hearing that sound, pricked up their ears, paused for a moment, and said, "Wise ones, are the Licchavis of Vaishali dancing in the pleasure garden? Let's do that." Those eager to watch quickly went to the pleasure garden, entered it, and the Group of Six monks also came out. Those people said to them, "Venerables, where are the performers dancing?" They said, "Fool, can't you tell the difference? Would performers dancing make such a sound? Venerables, then whose sound is this?" The wise ones said, "We are dragging our bodies to bathe." The venerables said, "Are you, wise ones, tormented by desires?" Fool, is your throat being crushed by a stone? Would we ascetics be tormented by desires? Are you trying to imitate us?" Don't speak, leave now, where have you caused harm?" Those people threatened them, then came down from the high place, entered Vaishali, and began to slander on the main roads, alleys, crossroads, and three-way intersections. The monks heard this and reported it to the Blessed One, who thought: The reason for the slight fault is that the monks are dragging their bodies with pumice stones to bathe. Therefore, a monk should not drag his body with pumice stones to bathe; if he drags, he will commit a serious offense. The Blessed One taught that a monk should not drag his body with pumice stones to bathe. The monks, with cracked feet and covered in dirt, went begging, and were seen by Brahmins and householders, who said, "Venerables, your feet are cracked and covered in dirt..."
