The Six Groups of monks carried burdens with their bodies, and Brahmins and householders ridiculed them, saying: "Venerables, we temporarily carry burdens for our parents, children, and wives, but for whom do you carry burdens with your bodies?" They said: "Good sirs, we also have many things to do, such as offering to the teacher, providing meals to the Sangha, and caring for the sick." They remained silent. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said: "Therefore, monks should not carry burdens with their bodies. If they do, it will be a serious offense."
