At that time, the Bhikshus reported to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed, "Therefore, the Bhikshus should carry nets." The Bhagavan instructed that the Bhikshus should carry nets. At that time, the Bhikshus reported to the Bhagavan, and the Bhagavan instructed, "Nets made of five-colored threads should not be used, but rather nets made of a single color." The Bhagavan instructed that nets made of a single color should be carried. Those who were elderly and frail and those with wind-related illnesses also began to carry nets, and the Bhagavan instructed, "The elderly and those with wind-related illnesses should also request the net vow from the Sangha, and whoever has been granted the net vow by the Sangha should carry a net." I, an elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so, request the bestowal of the net-robe from the Sangha. Please, compassionate Sangha, with a compassionate heart, for me, an elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so, grant the bestowal of the net-robe." Repeat this twice, up to three times. After that, one monk makes a request and performs the karma: "Please listen, venerable Sangha. This elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so, requests the bestowal of the net-robe from the Sangha. If it is the right time and permissible for the Sangha, please grant it. The Sangha will bestow the net-robe upon this elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so." This is the request. The karma is performed as follows: "Please listen, venerable Sangha. This elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so, requests the bestowal of the net-robe from the Sangha, and for this reason, the Sangha will bestow the net-robe upon this elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so. Those venerable ones who can tolerate the Sangha bestowing the net-robe upon this elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so, should remain silent. Those who cannot tolerate it, please speak up." The Sangha tolerates and grants it, and the Sangha has bestowed the net-robe upon this elderly, weakened monk, or one with a wind disease, named so-and-so. Because of this silence, it is accepted as such. Whoever has been given the bestowal of the net-robe by the Sangha should hold the net-robe and not regret it. If other monks need a staff and a net-robe, the monks should separately give them the bestowal of the staff and the net-robe. The Blessed One.
