那时，比丘们向世尊禀告，世尊开示说：因此，比丘不应用手拿着钵，而应放入钵囊中拿着。世尊开示说比丘不应用手拿着钵，而应放入钵囊中拿着之后，比丘们放入钵囊中，却只用手拿着走，发生了同样的过失，那时比丘们向世尊禀告，世尊开示说：钵囊不应用手拿着，而应用绳子系着，用腋下夹着。佛陀世尊住在舍卫城祇陀林给孤独园。比丘们与意见一致的人一起游历乡野。有多少时候，一位婆罗门生病了，他去医生那里说：尊者，请您给我开一些治疗我这种疾病的药。医生说：先生，服用诃梨勒，您的病情就会好转。他说：这条路上哪里有诃梨勒？医生说：婆罗门，这些释迦族的沙门们是智者，如果您向他们乞讨，他们那里可能会有。那人走到比丘们那里问道：尊者们，你们有诃梨勒吗？他们说：婆罗门，如果有，那有什么用呢？医生告诉我去找诃梨勒，如果你们有，请给我一些。那位比丘在他面前打开钵囊，里面有竹笋，有盐，有糖，还有药物，婆罗门看到后说：尊者们，你们的行为是不清净的，宁愿我死了，吃这些东西，吃不清净的东西不是这样的。那时，比丘们向世尊禀告，世尊开示说：应当携带三种容器：钵囊、药囊和糖囊。比丘们把这些东西的绳子一起系上。

How many times, a Brahmin fell ill, he went to the doctor and said: Venerable, please prescribe some medicine to treat my disease. The doctor said: Sir, take haritaki, and your condition will improve. He said: Where is haritaki on this road? The doctor said: Brahmin, these Shakyaputra ascetics are wise, if you beg from them, they may have it. The man went to the monks and asked: Venerables, do you have haritaki? They said: Brahmin, if we have it, what is it for? The doctor told me to look for haritaki, if you have it, please give me some. That monk opened the alms bowl bag in front of him, and there were bamboo shoots, salt, sugar, and medicine in it. The Brahmin saw it and said: Venerables, your behavior is impure, I would rather die than eat these things, eating impure things is not like this. At that time, the monks reported to the Blessed One, and the Blessed One instructed: Three containers should be carried: an alms bowl bag, a medicine bag, and a sugar bag. The Blessed One instructed, "Felt should be sewn in the middle, and crow's foot stitches should be sewn from time to time." A certain monk obtained a piece of felt, and he thought, "The Blessed One has instructed that the three Dharma robes should be sewn and held." He thought, "Shall I sew it?" Then he took a knife and needles and went to a tree. The Blessed One also went in that direction, and seeing him, instructed, "Monk, what is this?" He reported, "Venerable One, the Blessed One has instructed that a monk should sew and hold three Dharma robes, so I obtained this piece of felt and want to sew it into a Dharma robe." Then, the Blessed One praised the respect for the precepts of the monks, and instructed the monks, "Monks, therefore, these five things should not be sewn: all cotton cloth, all wool, all felt, all hair, and all hides." 如是宣说。因此，比丘不应无座具而行。若行，则犯重罪。世尊宣说比丘不应无座具而行后，比丘们以当日返回之想，前往其附近的其他寺庙，或行经之处，或前往其他村庄，彼等亦携座具，年迈衰弱的老年住持，以及无法忍受疾病者，皆感困顿。世尊未允许以当日返回之想而行者无座具而行。彼时，比丘们祈请世尊，世尊如是宣说。因此，比丘于附近及日间行处，不应携带座具。若前往其他村庄，以当日返回之想而行，亦不应携带座具。其他比丘无座具前往其他村庄，以当日返回之想而行，彼等发生如是之事，彼等至黄昏之时，彼等因敬重学处，于夜晚返回，遭遇狮子、老虎、盗贼及邪见者之事，比丘们祈请世尊，世尊如是宣说。若如是思惟而行，至彼处黄昏之时，应住于彼处，如是于梵行者处，轻蔑座具而卧。若能寻得，则善。若不能寻得，则将上衣叠为四层而铺设，短暂而卧。不应长久而卧，应度过夜晚。另一比丘轻蔑一比丘之座具，彼因此而梦魇，彼因不净而变得不悦，如是彼比丘开始索回座具，彼不愿之情况，如前所述。世尊如是宣说。应清洗后施与。 彼比丘清洗后施与，然彼不愿接受之情况，亦如前所述。世尊如是宣说。

After the Blessed One declared that a monk should not go without a sitting cloth, the monks, with the intention of returning that day, went to other monasteries in its vicinity, or to places they walked, or to other villages, and they also carried sitting cloths, causing the elderly and frail abbots, and those who could not bear illness, to become distressed. The Blessed One did not allow those who went with the intention of returning that day to go without a sitting cloth. At that time, the monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One declared thus. Therefore, a monk should not carry a sitting cloth when going to nearby places or places frequented during the day. If going to another village with the intention of returning that day, one should not carry a sitting cloth there either. Other monks, without sitting cloths, went to other villages with the intention of returning that day, and such things happened to them, and when it became dusk, they returned at night out of respect for the precepts, and encountered lions, tigers, thieves, and those with wrong views. The monks requested the Blessed One, and the Blessed One declared thus. If one thinks thus and goes, and it becomes dusk there, one should stay there, and thus, among those who practice the pure life, one should despise the sitting cloth and lie down. If one can find it, that is good. If one cannot find it, one should fold the upper garment into four layers and spread it out, and lie down briefly. One should not lie down for a long time, but should spend the night. Another monk despised the sitting cloth of another monk, and he had a nightmare because of it, and he became displeased because of impurity, and thus that monk began to demand the sitting cloth back, and the situation where he did not want it, and so on, was as before. The Blessed One declared thus. It should be washed and given away. If that monk washes it and gives it away, but the situation where he does not want to accept it is also as before. The Blessed One declared thus.
