Thus. Whatever beings have gathered here, whether dwelling on land or in the sky, may they always cherish sentient beings, and may they practice the Dharma day and night. After making such dedication, thereafter, the sole white lotus elephant king, knowing that the venerable Syanapa Sangden had completely expounded the Dharma with the gift of voice, went wherever his heart desired. The king said: "Auspicious Increase, for what reason does it go wherever it goes here?" He replied: "O god, it is not. It is because upon hearing the sound of a certain noble one expounding the Dharma with the gift of voice, this elephant's mind was captivated by it, and it became uncontrollable." The king said: "Auspicious Increase, turn the elephant back, and seek that noble one, offer him clothing, and tomorrow we will go to the mountain cliffs." The god agreed. He then returned home. Queen Phrengdenma asked: "O god, why have you returned?" He recounted what had happened, and said: "Phrengdenma, give me clothes, and I will go and offer them to that noble one." She thought: "If the noble Syanapa Sangden expounds the Dharma with the gift of voice, but he is ugly in appearance and small in stature, and this king is devoted to great things, if he sees him, there may be a danger that he will not believe, so I must devise a means." Having thought thus, she said: "O god, you may go to the mountain cliffs, and I will offer clothes to that noble one." He said: "Phrengdenma, you may also offer other clothes. Would two clothes make the Kosala palace poor?" She remained silent. The king, carrying clothes suitable for a great man, went to Jeta Grove. At that time, the venerable Ananda was walking and sitting at the gate of Jeta Grove, and the king got off the elephant, prostrated at his feet, and said: "O noble one, where is the noble one who expounded the Dharma with the gift of voice this morning?" He replied: "Great king, what do you want? I want to offer clothes to that noble one." He thought: "The venerable Syanapa Sangden expounds the Dharma with the gift of voice,

If so, that (bhikshu) is ugly in appearance and short in stature, and this king has faith in the vast realm, if he sees that (bhikshu), it is possible that he will not believe, so let's think of a way, thinking like this, he said: Great King, please grant him to me, and I will make offerings to him. The king said: The Blessed One praised offering with one's own hands, so offer with your own hands and show him. At that time, the Venerable Snyanpa Zangden, for the sake of midday wandering, was dwelling near a tree. Then, the Venerable Kungawo said: Great King, that (bhikshu) is dwelling near a tree, please go there. He went to that (bhikshu) and looked at him, and after a while, he saw that (bhikshu) was very ugly, so he became unbelieving, unhappy, turned his face away, threw away his clothes and left. The Venerable Snyanpa Zangden then spoke these verses: Those who cling to my form, and also follow my voice, those who are dominated by desire, those people do not see me. If the inner self is known, and does not look at the outer appearance, whoever sees the inner fruit, that person will be led by the voice. If the inner self is not known, and the outer appearance is observed, whoever sees the outer fruit, that person will also be led by the voice. If the inner self is not known, and the outer appearance is not seen, completely ignorant children, that person will also be led by the voice. If the inner self is completely known, and the outer appearance is also seen, the steadfast wisdom inclines to this, and will not be led by the voice. At that time, the monks became doubtful, and in order to dispel all doubts, they asked Shakyamuni Bhagavan: Venerable, what kind of karma did the Venerable Snyanpa Zangden do, that the maturation of that karma resulted in an ugly appearance, a short stature, but a beautiful voice? The Bhagavan taught: Monks, the son of good family, Snyanpa Zangden himself did and accumulated the collection of karma, transforming the causes and conditions, dwelling like light, it will not happen in vain, Snyanpa Zangden himself did and accumulated the karma, who else would (bear it)?
