Now then. Wanting all the bhikshunis to know, one should also study that discipline. One should also ask the bhikshunis who uphold the sutras, uphold the vinaya, and uphold the matrika, for that is the procedure for them. Furthermore, what is meant by "who"? It refers to the twelve sections. When the bhikshunis admonish, it refers to these Dharma holders. "You should study that discipline" refers to the range from the "eight root defeats" to the "seven ways to settle disputes." What is meant by "child" is one who does not uphold the sutras, does not uphold the vinaya, and does not uphold the matrika, is called a child. What is meant by "unskilled" is one who is unskilled in the sutras, unskilled in the vinaya, and unskilled in the matrika, is called unskilled. What is meant by "unclear" is one who is unclear about the sutras, unclear about the vinaya, and unclear about the matrika, is called unclear. Therefore, a bhikshuni should ask other bhikshunis who uphold the sutras, uphold the vinaya, and uphold the matrika. From "clear about the sutras" to "clear about the vinaya" and "clear about the matrika." What is meant by "wanting all the bhikshunis to know" is wanting to study the discipline. What is meant by "you should also study that discipline" is where the bhikshunis study. What is meant by "offense of expiation" is as before. If asked how one incurs an offense, if the bhikshunis, when admonishing, say even slightly, "These people are foolish," they incur an offense of expiation. Saying "are ignorant" incurs an offense of expiation. Saying "unclear" incurs an offense of expiation. Saying "unskilled" incurs an offense of expiation. The fifth of the sixth chapter of "Offenses of Expiation" is complete. The basis of the story is in Shravasti. At that time, the groups of twelve, when bhikshunis were fighting, would gather at the door to eavesdrop. Whatever they heard, they would spread it around, what they heard from this side they would spread to that side, and what they heard from that side they would spread to this side. Therefore, the sangha was fighting, exposing each other's faults, arguing, and debating, and those bhikshunis of little importance were being slandered. At that time, they reported to the Bhagavan. Then, the Bhagavan, from "this happened" to "establishing the precepts," did everything. Again, if any bhikshuni, knowingly, bhikshunis are fighting

Having become young, digging into privacy, fighting, and staying when disputes arise, I listen to what those nuns are saying, and accordingly establish terms. If one listens silently and stays, it is a downfall. Furthermore, what is called the twelve sections? Staying and listening means staying at the door wanting to hear. 'It is a downfall' means it is the same as before. So, how does one commit a downfall? If a nun is inside, and another enters from outside, that person makes a sound, or a heel sound, or a clapper sound. Does one not do it? If the sound is not heard, and the meaning is not understood, it is a misdeed. If the sound is heard, and the meaning is understood, it is a downfall. Similarly, it is a downfall no matter where one stays. If one thinks, 'Having heard, I will pacify it,' there is no downfall. The sixth of the sixth downfall is complete. The beginning is in Shravasti. At that time, when the twelve-section nuns' sangha was determining the Dharma, they stood up silently and left. They petitioned the Blessed One, and the Blessed One said, 'Do not leave.' Those people became ill because of this, and the Blessed One said, 'Having informed the nuns, one may leave.' Then, the Blessed One said, 'Nuns desiring to learn,' and so on, up to 'reducing possessions.' Furthermore, the Shravaka nuns should recite the basis of learning the Vinaya as follows: Again, any nun who, while determining the Dharma-related words of the Sangha, stands up silently from her seat and leaves without informing the nuns who are present, except for such a circumstance, commits a downfall. Again, what is called the twelve sections? 'Determining the Dharma-related words' means determining the Dharma-related words in this way: petition, petition and two, petition and four actions. 'Standing up silently' means being silent. 'Without informing the nuns who are present' means without expressing intention. 'Except for such a circumstance' means excluding the circumstance. 'It is a downfall' means it is the same as before.
