That which is called "is" refers to oneself. That which is called "cause to take" refers to another. Dwelling in what belongs to a pleasure garden means dwelling in a garden. That which is called "except for dwelling in what belongs to a dwelling place" means inside a temple. If she thinks, "Whose is this? I will take it," taking it by making that the cause, that is called a Dharma that accords with that. That which is called "except for the time" means placing. That which is called "offense" is as before. If asked, how does it become an offense for her? If a Bhikshuni takes a jewel, if she takes one that is pierced, she commits an offense. If she takes one that is not pierced, she commits a misdeed. Like jewels, pearls, diamonds, beryl, conch shells, coral, agate, rubies, and right-spiraling conch shells, if she takes one that is pierced, she commits an offense. If she takes one that is not pierced, she commits a misdeed. Even if she takes a small jewel, she commits a misdeed. If she takes a necklace, she commits an offense. Similarly, rings, armlets, necklaces, semodos, and so forth, she also commits an offense. Even if she takes a jewel-decorated belt, she commits a misdeed, up to this point. If a Bhikshuni takes a silver jewel, if it has a clear mark, she commits an offense. If it does not have a clear mark, she commits a misdeed. Even if she takes a shoemaking tool, she commits a misdeed. If a Bhikshuni takes a lute with strings, she commits an offense. If she takes one without strings, she commits a misdeed. Similarly, vaibhāsika, one-stringed lute, hand drum, large drum, clay drum, drum pataha, and so forth, if she takes one with strings, she commits an offense. If she takes one without strings, she commits a misdeed. Even if she takes a grass-made lute with strings, she commits an offense. If she takes one without strings, she commits a misdeed. Similarly, a single-pointed vajra, a wheel, a single-pointed weapon, a sword, a short spear, an arrow, a spear, a half-spear made of iron, an iron arrow, a half-arrow made of iron, if she takes one that can be thrown, she commits an offense. If she takes one that cannot be thrown, she commits a misdeed. If a Bhikshuni takes an arrow with an arrowhead, she commits an offense. If she takes one without an arrowhead, she commits a misdeed. Even if she takes a bow made of grass.

Furthermore, it is a misdeed. If a bhikkhuni takes a Buddha's image, statue, or relic, it is a downfall. If there are no relics, it is a misdeed. If she takes it with the intention of making offerings to the teacher, or places it in the hands of a novice nun or a suitable person, there is no downfall. Intermediate summary: Jewels, necklaces, lutes, spears, bows, and arrows, along with images containing relics, are all accurately summarized here. The second part of the fifth downfall is complete. The origin of the story is in Rajagriha (present-day Rajgir). At that time, King Bimbisara had three sources of water for ascetic practices, which felt warm when cold and cold when warm. One was for the king himself to bathe in. The second was for the consorts. The third was for all the world in common. Then, King Bimbisara thought: 'If I were to extensively honor the Bhagavan and the assembly of shravakas with all kinds of provisions, it would not be as good as bathing in the water of ascetic practice. Rather, I will freely offer two portions of the water of ascetic practice to the Bhagavan, the monks, and the nuns.' Having thought thus, King Bimbisara went to where the Bhagavan was. Upon arriving, he bowed his head at the feet of the Bhagavan and sat down to one side. After sitting down to one side, the Bhagavan instructed King Bimbisara with Dharma-related speech. Then, rising from his seat, he arranged his upper robe over one shoulder, and with palms joined in reverence, he said to the Bhagavan: 'Bhagavan, I would like to offer the water of ascetic practice together with the assembly of shravaka nuns. Where the kingly lineage receives the crown-anointing bath, I ask the Bhagavan to bathe there with the assembly of shravakas. Where the consorts and retinue bathe, may the assembly of shravaka nuns of the Tathagata bathe and enjoy it as they please.' The Bhagavan remained silent, and King Bimbisara understood that he had granted permission to enjoy the water of ascetic practice.
