What is designated? What is ownerless? What is it that there is no donor among those who are neither male nor female? Or what is found fallen on the road? What is taken back after being lost? When someone is near death, clean clothes and an umbrella are raised and taken to the cemetery. Then, those taken back from there are given to the nuns. This is called clothes taken back after being lost. What is called a cemetery? What is taken back from a cemetery without a guardian? The fifth is: in the broom heap. Furthermore, there are five kinds of broom heaps: What are the five? The broom heap by the main road, by the water, lost in the monastery, tattered, and the fifth is: in the broom heap. Furthermore, there are five kinds of broom heaps: eaten by worms, eaten by parasites, eaten by mice, burned by fire, and the fifth is clothes fallen on the ground. If a nun finds coarse cloth, if she can, she should make a samghati from that cloth, making it double-layered. The sitting mat should also be made double-layered. The upper robe should be made single-layered. The lower skirt should also be made single-layered. Similarly, the rag robe and the torn alms bowl bag should also be made single-layered. If a nun sews a third layer onto a double-layered samghati made from coarse cloth, she commits a misdeed when she sews it. If ten days pass, she commits an offense entailing forfeiture. If a nun makes a double-layered samghati from coarse cloth and thinks to mend other places, and takes off one layer, she commits a misdeed when she takes it off. If ten days pass, she commits an offense entailing forfeiture. If she generates this thought: having taken it apart, washed it, and turned it inside out, thinking to mend this one, there is no offense when she takes it apart. If ten days pass, she commits an offense entailing forfeiture. Similarly, this should also be said for the sitting mat. If one sews a layer onto a single-layered upper robe, it is a misdeed, and if ten days pass, it is an offense entailing forfeiture. Just as with the upper robe, this should also be said for the lower skirt. This should also be said for the five Dharma robes, and for all of these, it should be said that one commits an offense entailing forfeiture. If a nun finds a piece of clothing used at a particular time, if she can, she should make a four-layered samghati from that cloth. The sitting mat, upper robe, and lower skirt should be made double-layered. Dust

Likewise for la-zan and broken wooden supports. If a bhikshuni sews the fifth layer onto a four-layered robe, she commits a minor offense while sewing it. If ten days pass, it is a nissaggiya pacittiya. The same applies as before up to "sewing." The same should be said for cushions as well. The upper garment and lower garment are also the same. The same should be said for dust-eaters and broken wooden supports as well. From "the second layer" onwards, if she sews and mends the third layer, she commits a minor offense while sewing it. If ten days pass, it is a nissaggiya pacittiya. Thinking, "I will mend it elsewhere," she commits a minor offense while mending it. If ten days pass, it is a nissaggiya pacittiya. From "having taken it apart, washed it, and turned it over," if she thinks, "I will mend it here," there is no offense. If ten days pass, it is a nissaggiya pacittiya. For mending cloths for wiping away dirt, one may mend as much as one wishes. The venerable Ananda asked the Blessed One Buddha: Venerable, how many pieces of cloth are there in a monk's robe? The Blessed One replied: Ananda, there are nine. Which nine? The ninth, eleventh, thirteenth, fifteenth, seventeenth, nineteenth, twenty-first, twenty-third, and twenty-fifth. Ananda, these nine with pieces of cloth are called robes. Ananda, of these, the ninth, eleventh, and thirteenth should be held in three parts. The fifteenth, seventeenth, and nineteenth should be held in four parts. The twenty-first, twenty-third, and twenty-fifth should be held in five parts. It should be mended in this way. That is the end of the mending. Blessed One, what is the size of the Dharma garment? Ananda, there are three: large Dharma garment, medium, and small. Of these, the large robe is five cubits long and three cubits wide. The small robe
