So it was said. The nuns also requested the Blessed One, and then the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," made it up to the establishment of the precepts. Furthermore, any nun who joins for the sake of dividing the harmonious Sangha, having correctly initiated a dispute for the sake of division, if she dwells clinging to it, then the nuns should say to that nun: "Venerable Mother, do not join for the sake of dividing the harmonious Sangha. Do not correctly initiate a dispute for the sake of division, clinging to it and following it. Venerable Mother, be in harmony with the Sangha! Do not divide the harmonious Sangha, do not argue, be of one mind, with one desire, becoming like water and milk mixed together, and if you illuminate the Teacher's doctrine, you will abide touching upon happiness. This basis for creating division in the Venerable Mother's Sangha should be destroyed," she should be admonished. When the nuns admonish that nun in this way, if she gives up that basis, then that is good. If she does not give it up, in order to make her give up that basis, she should be correctly admonished twice, three times, and correctly taught. When correctly admonishing twice, three times, and correctly teaching, if she gives up that basis, then that is good. If she does not give it up, then this Dharma will also become an offense on the third time, and it is a Sanghavasesa offense requiring expulsion. Furthermore, "any nun" refers to Thullananda, or anyone similar to her. The Sangha refers to the Sangha of the Tathagata's female disciples. Harmony means having the same taste. For the sake of division means for the sake of making two kinds. Joining means striving. For the sake of creating division means: the basis for creating division is fourteen, namely Dharma or non-Dharma, Vinaya or non-Vinaya, offense or non-offense, with remainder or without remainder, heavy or light, to be confessed or to be guarded, transgressing the Vinaya or about to be blamed, any of these things is very good. Dispute means the four disputes, namely from "dispute" onwards, arguing for the sake of doing.

...until the interval. "Taking up and grasping correctly" means manifest attachment. "The nuns say to that nun" means these Dharma practitioners. "Admonishing and instructing" means as previously instructed. "If the nuns, when admonishing and instructing, abandon that basis" means that view. "If they abandon it, then it is good" means then it is good. "If they do not abandon it" means that view. They should be admonished and instructed correctly between two and three times, which means as previously instructed by the request and the four actions. This is correct instruction. This is correct teaching. "This Dharma also" means speaking the sound of Dharma in what is not Dharma. "On the third time, they must be made to abandon it" means the teacher and what is prescribed. The rest is as before. If asked how one falls into offense, whatever nun joins in order to divide the Sangha, in all cases, one falls into an offense of wrongdoing. When admonishing and instructing, if they abandon that basis, then it is good. If they do not abandon it, then it is a serious offense. The rest should be stated as before. In the analysis of nuns, the seventeenth Sanghavasesa offense is completed. Then, the Blessed One, while sitting on that seat, established the second basis of training: From among the nuns, whether one, two, or many, having become companions of that nun, following after discordant speech, saying to the nuns: "Noble ones, do not say anything good or bad about this nun. Why? Because this nun is a speaker of the Dharma, a speaker of the Vinaya, and this nun has correctly taken up the Dharma and the Vinaya, and grasps and follows them. This nun speaks knowingly, not unknowingly, and whatever this nun desires and endures, we also desire and endure." If they say that, the nuns should say to those nuns: "Noble ones, this nun is a speaker of the Dharma, a Vinaya

It is said that this bhikkhuni, having properly taken up the Dharma and the Vinaya, holds them well and practices accordingly. This bhikkhuni speaks according to a portion (of understanding), not without knowledge. Do not say: "Whatever this bhikkhuni likes and tolerates, we also like and tolerate." Why is that? This bhikkhuni is not a speaker of the Dharma, not a speaker of the Vinaya, but this bhikkhuni speaks what is not Dharma, speaks what is not Vinaya. This bhikkhuni, having properly taken up what is not Dharma and what is not Vinaya, holds them well and practices accordingly. This bhikkhuni speaks without understanding, not with understanding. Whatever this bhikkhuni likes and tolerates, you should not like and tolerate. Do not divide the Sangha! You should wish for the harmony of the Sangha! Act in harmony with the Sangha! Do not divide the harmonious Sangha, do not argue about universal joy, be of one mind, like water and milk mixed together. If you can illuminate the Teacher's teachings, you will abide in comfort. Bhikkhunis, abandon such behavior of following those who speak discord for the sake of dividing the Sangha! Thus it should be said. When the bhikkhunis say this to those bhikkhunis, if she gives up that basis, that is good. If she does not give it up, in order to make her give up that basis, she should be properly admonished and properly instructed two or three times. Having properly admonished and properly instructed two or three times, if she gives up that basis, that is good. If she does not give it up, then this matter will necessarily occur on the third time, and it is a Sanghavasesa. "That bhikkhuni" refers to the coarse rejoicer. "Becoming a friend to the bhikkhuni" refers to the twelve divisions. "One or" refers to one alone. "Two or" refers to two alone. "Many may also be" refers to more than two being many. "To those bhikkhunis" refers to those who hold these teachings. "If one says that" refers to if one speaks. "Noble Mother, you" refers to you all.
