Then they thought, 'Even if they come carrying goods, however, after praising that person and being happy, he will give us flowers.' They thought like this. Then, one of them said to him, 'Like reeds and rushes, even if cut and chopped, they will grow again. May your nose grow like that! May the one who asks for flowers grant it.' The second one said, 'Like kusha grass and thatch grass, even if cut and chopped, they will grow again. May your nose grow like that! May the one who asks for lotuses grant it.' The third one said, 'Like gourds and pumpkins, even if cut and chopped, they will grow again. May your nose grow like that! May the one who asks for flowers grant it.' The fourth one said, 'Like hair and beard, even if shaved, they will grow again. May your nose grow like that! May the one who asks for flowers grant it.' The fifth one said, 'Whoever asks for lotuses, they will all say you are joking. Whether lotuses are given or not, your nose will not grow back.' That person thought, 'The four are telling me to give, but the fifth one is speaking from the heart as it is, I should give him lotuses.' Thinking like this, he gave him as many lotuses as he needed. That person, with a joyful, satisfied, and happy mind, took the lotuses and went to where the woman was, and experienced happiness. Then, the two of them thought, 'Look at how we are completely afflicted by the cause of desire. How can we prevent the suffering of attachment from arising?' At the time when the Buddha Bhagavan had not appeared in the world, solitary Buddhas would appear in the world, and not long after that, there was a stupa of a solitary Buddha, and they offered those lotuses there and prayed, 'By this root of virtue of completely giving up the Dharma to be given, may I, in whatever lifetimes I am born, have less affliction.' They did just that. At that time, the person who took the lotuses was this Mahakashyapa. At that time, the woman at that time was this Bhadra Kapilavastu maiden. The ripening of the karma of offering the lotuses to him caused their attachment to diminish.

To! Then, the monks asked the Blessed One: Blessed One, what deeds did the daughter of Serkya, Zangmo, perform and accumulate, that the statue made of Jambu River gold was made to shine with its own light? The Blessed One said: Monks, the deeds she did and accumulated should be explained in detail. Monks, in the past, a long time ago, ninety-one kalpas ago, when the lifespan of beings could reach eighty thousand years, there appeared a fully enlightened Buddha named Vipashyi, up to the Buddha, the Blessed One. When he attained the unsurpassed, perfect and complete enlightenment, he went to the royal palace of King Nyen-den, and so on, to partake of the meal in the royal palace. When he arrived there, once, a girl held a whisk with a handle made of Jambu River gold, and stood aside waving it, the light of the Buddha made the Jambu River gold shine. At that time, the girl thought: Am I holding an iron handle? She was doubtful. After Vipashyi Buddha finished his meal and left, she saw again that it was a handle made of the best Jambu River gold. From then on, three months passed, and so on, he went on a journey. After that, King Nyen-den made a statue out of Jambu River gold. Once, the girl brought the gold statue, and the light of Vipashyi Buddha made it shine, seeing the different colors, and so on, she made a vow: With the root of virtue that I have relinquished by giving alms, and so on, may I become a person with such a luminous body, and so on, may I be able to make it shine with my own light. She also pleased me with the power of her aspiration, and did not displease me. Monks, therefore, the deeds done for the Buddha, Dharma, and Sangha, and also
