་bacas pa, which is called "accompanied by reliance." Sangha residue is called "dependent on the sangha of those two offenses," related to the sangha of both, and dependent on the sangha of both. Because that offense will arise from the sangha of both, not from an individual. Or, the eight parajikas are without residue, but this offense is with residue, therefore it is called "accompanied by residue." So, how does one fall into offense? To slander a pure person, one falls into offense with ten grounds, and does not fall into offense with five grounds. How does one fall into offense with ten grounds? He changes his perception of what he has not seen, not heard, and does not doubt, and changes his patience, desire, wisdom, thought, and view, saying, "I have seen, I have heard, I doubt," then all speech will become sangha residue. He has forgotten what he has heard, and is forgetting what he doubts, he changes his perception, and changes his patience, desire, wisdom, thought, and view, saying, "I have heard, but have not forgotten, I doubt, and have not forgotten," then all speech will become sangha residue. Believing what he has heard and saying "I have seen," not believing what he has heard and saying "I have seen," doubting what he has heard and saying "I have seen," not doubting what he has heard and saying "I have seen," doubting what he doubts and saying "I have seen," then all speech will become sangha residue.

If one says, "I have not forgotten," one will not fall. Thus, one will not fall based on five grounds. Just as one falls based on ten grounds when slandering a pure person, but does not fall based on five grounds, similarly, when slandering someone who pretends to be impure when they are pure, one also falls based on ten grounds, but does not fall based on five grounds. When slandering an impure person, one falls based on eleven grounds, but does not fall based on six grounds. How does one fall based on eleven grounds? Regarding what he has not seen, not heard, and does not suspect, he changes his perception, and changes his forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, and says, "I have seen, I have heard, I suspect." Everything spoken becomes a Sanghavasesa. He has seen, but he has forgotten; he has heard, but he has forgotten; he suspects, but he has forgotten. He changes his perception, and changes his forbearance, desire, wisdom, discrimination, and view, and says, "I have seen, and I have not forgotten; I have heard, and I have not forgotten; I suspect, and I have not forgotten."
