Those who spent the summer in the royal palaces, how they understood things when they arrived on the full moon of the middle autumn month, I will tell. Those who are superior will inquire. Just as the Buddhas, the Bhagavat, are, so are the great Shravakas. Those who lived with the venerable Ashvajit, and those attendants, who spent the summer in villages, towns, districts, and royal palaces, arrived on the full moon of the middle autumn month where the venerable Ashvajit was, and the venerable Gadyabuna saw them. Having seen those who practice celibacy, he went to greet them, made them happy with frank words, and took their Dharma robes, staffs, alms bowls, water pots, hats, shoes, and cushions. They also went to the abbot, served him, and told how they understood things. Those who are superior will inquire, and Gadyabuna saw those who were going to Rajagriha to see the Bhagavat and to serve the Bhagavat. Having seen them, he went to those who had the same teacher and the same abbot, and said: Where are you going? They replied: We have already seen the abbot, now we are going to see the Buddha, the Bhagavat. Then, the venerable Gadyabuna thought: I have relied on the abbot and the virtuous friend, and I have seen the Dharmakaya of the Bhagavat, but I have not seen the Rupakaya, I should go to where the Bhagavat is. Thinking thus, Gadyabuna said to the abbot: Abbot, I have relied on the abbot and the virtuous friend, and I have seen the Dharmakaya of the Bhagavat, but I have not seen the Rupakaya, now I want to see the Rupakaya. Having said this, Ashvajit said to Gadyabuna: Son, the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly enlightened Buddhas, are as difficult to see as the Udumbara flower. Son, the Tathagatas, the Arhats, the perfectly enlightened

Go and see that Buddha! Then, the venerable Gyabu Nor Khenpo agreed. Nyuuden Khenpo and the others went together to where the Blessed One was. At that time, the Blessed One was teaching the Dharma to hundreds and thousands of attendants. The Blessed One saw Gyabu Nor coming from afar. Having seen him, the Blessed One said to Gyabu Nor: Gyabu Nor, come here! Welcome! You have arrived on time! Thus spoke the Blessed One. At that time, incompatible dwellings would be assigned. The Sutra holders and the Vinaya holders together. The Sutra holders and the Mother Tantra holders together. The Vinaya holders and the Sutra holders together. The Vinaya holders and the Mother Tantra holders together. From here, similarly, the third combination should also be added. Then, the Blessed One thought: This Gyabu Nor, in the presence of the Buddhas of the past, made the aspiration: Alas! May I become the best person to arrange the dwelling and appoint the food for the Blessed One! From the aspiration to here. The Blessed One said: One who assigns dwellings, if endowed with five qualities, should not be appointed if not already appointed, and should be removed if already appointed. What are the five? Acting out of desire, acting out of hatred, acting out of ignorance, acting out of fear, and not knowing whether a dwelling has been assigned or not. The white side should be the opposite of this. Then, the Blessed One said to the monks: Monks, Gyabu Nor should be appointed as the dwelling assigner. From here, having arranged the dwelling, the work begins. Venerable Sangha, please listen. If the Sangha is pleased to appoint Gyabu Nor as the dwelling assigner, if the Sangha deems it timely and acceptable, may the Sangha permit it. I will appoint Gyabu Nor as the dwelling assigner of the Sangha. Up to here, this is the request. After that, the work should be done according to the proper procedure. When Gyabu Nor is appointed as the dwelling assigner of the Sangha, he begins to assign other dwellings. He places the Sutra holders and the Sutra holders together.

Those who uphold the Vinaya, together with those who uphold the Vinaya. Those who uphold the Mamos, together with those who uphold the Mamos. The newcomers, together with the newcomers. The practitioners of Yoga, together with the practitioners of Yoga. Those who have attained the fruit of Stream-entry are assigned together with those who are Once-returners. Those who have attained the fruit of Once-returning are together with those who are Non-returners. The Non-returners are together with the Arhats. Thus, those monks especially establish thorough discussions with each other, and the aspect of virtue increases, so those with similar dwellings are assigned to other places. At that time, the venerable Kālodāyin distributes dwellings by means of miraculous power. To those who come early in the night, he emits light from one finger and assigns dwellings. To those who come very late in the night, he emits light from two fingers and assigns dwellings. Similarly, he emits light from the third, fourth, and fifth fingers, up to "thus." Then, those monks think, "This is acting according to the Dharma," and from then on, what has not been understood will be understood, and what has been understood will be even more particularly understood. Having done so, in this way, the venerable Kālodāyin shows the miracle of magical power and assigns dwellings, and that sound spreads in the four directions. At that time, those who were amazed came during the day to sit near the Grove of Light in order to see it directly, and they waited for the sun to set and the night to come. To them also, that venerable one similarly showed the miracle of magical power and then assigned dwellings. For a while, in that Rājagṛha (present-day Rajgir, Bihar), the donors and patrons prepared three kinds of food for the Sangha. Some were excellent offerings, some were middling offerings, and some were inferior offerings. Whichever household prepared excellent food, the group of six monks knew beforehand, so only they themselves went there.
