From that time on, I thought to myself, even though external objects are without consciousness, if they are properly hammered, they will produce sound. What need is there to mention my kingdom's wealth, even the enjoyers? I thought to myself, the kingdom is enough. I abandoned the kingdom and found the cause for seeing faults and minor flaws. I was determined to renounce and directly realized the enlightenment of a solitary buddha. Again, he said: The goldsmith skillfully hammers, the golden light illuminates the wrists of the hands. Hearing the sound of hammering, I and others together, because of this topic, utter various unpleasant words, and our minds are disturbed. Having thus recognized the faults of desire, I will practice alone like a rhinoceros. Thus they spoke to each other and sat down. Then, the potter and his wife together thought: These great beings have even abandoned the vast kingdom of a large family and have renounced. Why should we maintain our household with pottery, tiles, jars, and shards, and completely abandon this state of generating the notion of enjoyment? Why should we not renounce? Again, he said: Having abandoned towns, villages, family, and places of wealth, wandering in the human world with a mind free from attachment. Why should we manifest our hard-earned possessions, as if carried away by water, like beggars? Thus, they dawned, the night passed, and after it dawned, the potter couple generated a respectful mind, invited those solitary buddhas, and offered alms until they ascended into the sky above. The potter couple prayed: Alala, may we never be born into a poor family because of this root of virtue of completely giving away the Dharma that we should give, and generating the mind of enlightenment. May we also have the fortune to possess such Dharma. May we please such a particularly excellent teacher, and not displease him.

Having said this, the two were very happy to renounce. After a while, the potter went to fetch water with a pot. Up to the point where the (potter's) wife deceived and retained (him). The wife renounced, and she thought: I have been deceived, but if there are no (children), what should I do now? I should give birth to and raise these two children. So, she gave birth to and raised these two children, and when they grew up, the potter examined (the clay) with mature, immature, salty, and unsalty (earth), and said this: Mature and immature, similarly, salty and unsalty, if two children are born who know (these), it is time for me to renounce. They should be taught how to dig (clay) from these two children, how to make utensils, until (they learn). Until renunciation. From seeing the potter begging for food, reciting the verses: Mature and immature, similarly, salty and unsalty, two children are born who know (these), the good woman has also gone, and I will also go. Until (the recitation is finished). The Blessed One taught: At that time, that potter was this Mahakashyapa now. That potter's wife was this Katyayani now, and at that time they also renounced because of a small aversion, and now also because of a small (aversion). Therefore, what should be done? By showing the cause of renunciation, one will become a person with such a collection of merits, just like Mahakashyapa and Katyayani, the monks should learn. Intermediate summary: Kalinga and Lagnajin, Mithila and Bashinmale, Kashi and Brahma Dana, Chest-lying and Naked Tula. Furthermore, the monks arose in doubt, and in order to cut off all doubts, they requested the Blessed One: Blessed One, what deeds did Katyayani do and what (merit) did she accumulate, so that she matured in this way, with a beautiful appearance and pleasing to the eye? Until (the question is finished). Monks, in the past, in a royal palace, a king ruled

From governance to the wealthy merchant possessing abundant riches and enjoying longevity. Furthermore, when observing those assemblies of beings, hundreds and thousands of sentient beings with rough hands and feet, yellow bodies, disheveled heads, covered in dust, with impaired faces and eyes, exhausted by heat and cold, I see them filled with suffering. Others are adorned with fine clothes and covered in ornaments, riding horses, elephants, people, and chariots, possessing excellent wealth. I think to myself, these suffering beings have become like this because of the karma of not giving. Moreover, they are unable to give adequately, so after death, they will be born into extremely inferior realms. Those with special generosity have become wealthy like this. I too should give generously to others without being stingy, so that I may obtain such wealth. I should give so that I will not suffer in future lives. He thought in this way. Having thought thus, he went home and said to his wife: "Good woman, let us take the wealth we have accumulated to the next world!" His wife said: "Very well, prepare the mounts, horses, camels, and donkeys." He said: "What is the use of these mounts? Common wealth cannot be taken to the next world. However, give generously to the poor, beggars, blind, and merchants who come to the house, so that they are not disappointed." His wife said: "I will do as you say." At the time when the Buddha, the Bhagavan, had not yet appeared in the world, when a Pratyekabuddha was about to appear in the world, a Pratyekabuddha with a small neck and a worn-out Dharma robe was begging for alms around the king's palace. He was standing at the door of that merchant's house. At that time, some servants and maids came out of the house to fetch water, and they saw that Pratyekabuddha with a small neck and a worn-out Dharma robe. They thought to themselves, "Whatever suffering person it is, give him what he wants." Thinking thus,
