The types of food and drink indicated by the physician are: not too cold, not too hot, not too bitter, not too spicy, not too salty, not too sour, not too sweet, not too astringent, not too oily, not too rough. Food and drink that avoids sour, spicy, salty, sour, sweet, astringent, oily, and rough qualities should be allowed to serve her. Then, in order to fully protect the fetus, treat the wife in this way: dress her in various colored clothes, fill her hands with gold bracelets, jewels, and pearls, hang various styles of necklaces and ornaments, wear bracelets, armlets, and earrings, paint her eyes with eye medicine, and adorn her cheeks with red pigment dots. Her teeth are as flawless as water lilies, silver, snow, pearl necklaces, jasmine flowers, the moon, swans, cow's milk, conch shells, and lotus roots. Her waist is bound with a gold belt, and her feet are adorned with anklets, like a golden stupa covered with flowers. Like a celestial maiden wandering in a joyful garden, let her stay in the pavilion where musicians who make sounds of song and music are, placed on a well-arranged great throne, moving from one throne to another, from one small throne to another, without her feet touching the ground, and do not allow anyone to make unpleasant sounds. After some time, that household became prosperous and flourishing with wealth, grain, gold, property, storehouses, cellars, slaves, maids, workers, those who live on porridge, bipeds, and quadrupeds, etc., just as the great ocean is filled by five hundred rivers in a single day, so too did that household become prosperous. Then, the Brahmin, like a great Sala tree, thought: If I have a son, will he, like other ordinary Brahmins, take ordinary [things] and then continue the lineage for King Padma the Great? Rather, I will have him make golden [things] for that purpose. Thinking this, after some time, he had golden [things] made. After eight or nine months had passed...

After his birth, a handsome boy was born, pleasing to look at, beautiful, as white as the color of a lotus root, with a head like an umbrella, long arms, a broad forehead, fine eyebrows, a throat like a lion, an upper body like a lion, and long shoulders. After he was born, they began to hold a birth celebration, removing all the stones, gravel, and tiles from all the trees with banyan trees, sprinkling them with sandalwood water, arranging various flowers, fumigating them with roasted grains and various fragrances, erecting banners and flags, hanging silk ribbons and streamers, and also having merchants set up stalls to do business. At the four gates and in the center of the crossroads, they gave alms and performed meritorious deeds, providing food to those who wanted to eat, drink to those who wanted to drink, clothes to those who wanted clothes, and garlands, incense, and unguents to those who wanted garlands, incense, and unguents. For twenty-one days, they gave such various kinds of alms and performed meritorious deeds. Relatives gathered together and said, "This boy was obtained by praying to the banyan tree, therefore, let the boy be named Nyagrodha-jata (榕树生, Born of the Banyan Tree)." The Brahmins said, "This boy's father is also of the same lineage as Kashyapa (光护), so let the boy be named Kashyapa." Some knew him as Kashyapa, and some knew him as Nyagrodha-jata. Then, he was entrusted to eight nurses, two of whom nursed him, two of whom gave him milk, two of whom wiped away dirt, and two of whom were playmates. They held iron spears, carried amulets, and held many peacock feathers, nourishing him with milk, yogurt, fresh butter, condensed milk, ghee essence, and other various essential items, raising him. He grew quickly, like a lotus growing in a pond. When he grew up, he was sent to study writing. In a few days, he mastered writing. At that time, he learned the Brahmin customs, conduct, cleanliness, daily behavior, taking ashes, and kindness.
