Without having, he prays to hundreds of thousands of gods for a son, such as Brahma (ཚངས་པ།,梵文:Brahmā, Sanskrit Romanization: brahma, literal meaning: Brahma), Indra (དབང་པོ།,梵文:Indra, Sanskrit Romanization: indra, literal meaning: Indra), near Vajrapani (ཉེ་དབང་།), Yama (གཤིན་རྗེ།,梵文:Yama, Sanskrit Romanization: yama, literal meaning: Yama), Sun (ཉི་མ།,梵文:Āditya, Sanskrit Romanization: āditya, literal meaning: Son of Aditi), Vishnu (ཁྱབ་འཇུག,梵文:Viṣṇu, Sanskrit Romanization: viṣṇu, literal meaning: Vishnu), Ishvara (དབང་བདག), Earth God (ས་ག་།), All-Deeds God (ལས་ཐམས་ཅད་པ།), Star God (ཐ་སྐར།), Earth God (སའི་ལྷ།), Naga (ཀླུ་།,梵文:Nāga, Sanskrit Romanization: nāga, literal meaning: Naga), Water God (ཆུ་ལྷ།), Fire God (མེ་ལྷ།), Wind God (རླུང་ལྷ།), Dhṛtarāṣṭra (ཡུལ་འཁོར་སྐྱོང་།,梵文:Dhṛtarāṣṭra, Sanskrit Romanization: dhṛtarāṣṭra, literal meaning: Upholder of the Realm), Holy Born (འཕགས་སྐྱེས་པོ།), Good-Looking Eye (མིག་མི་བཟང་།), Son of Vaiśravaṇa (རྣམ་ཐོས་ཀྱི་བུ།,梵文:Vaiśravaṇa, Sanskrit Romanization: vaiśravaṇa, literal meaning: Vaiśravaṇa), Jewel Good (ནོར་བུ་བཟང་པོ།), Full Good (གང་པོ།), Completely Good (གང་བ་བཟང་པོ།), Five Joys (ལྔས་རྩེན།), Five Takes (ལྔ་ལེན།), and so on, the twenty-eight Yaksha commanders, and the retinue of five hundred robbing mothers, the monastery god, the forest god, the four-way intersection god, the three-way intersection god, the offering-receiving god, the body god, the co-born, the dharma-friend, the constantly following gods, and also prays to hundreds and thousands of other gods. In the world, there is such a saying that sons and daughters are born from the cause of praying to gods, but that is not so. If it were so, like a wheel-turning king, each would have a thousand sons. However, sons and daughters are born from the manifestation of the six conditions. What are these six? The father and mother have done and accumulated the karma to obtain a son. The son has also done and accumulated the karma to obtain a father and mother. The mother is not disabled and has menstruation. The father and mother engage in intercourse and unite. The gandharva is also nearby. The gandharva also strongly experiences either a following affection or anger. From the manifestation of these six conditions, sons and daughters are born. Therefore, if he only focuses on praying to hundreds and thousands of gods, he has neither son nor daughter. Then, he goes up to the top of the mansion and rests his cheek on his hand, thinking sadly, "Such a vast fortune of my household will be taken by those without children." Then, relatives come to him and say, "Nyagrodha, why are you so unhappy?" At that time, he said to the relatives

And they spoke extensively, and they said this: Rely on the gods and the directions! He said this: There was no one who did not rely on the gods or the directions before, but I have no son or daughter. Then the Brahmin, like a great Sala tree, came from the Nyagrodha and said this: Son Nyagrodha, why are you unhappy? He said this: Mother, is my unhappiness a small matter? My vast household possessions like this, because there is no son, will be confiscated. In the Nyagrodha grove, the Brahmin, like a great Sala tree, had a great Nyagrodha tree with branches, a crown, leaves, and foliage that were abundant, and leaves that were large and branches that were lush. By its name, it was known as the city of Nyagrodha. The mother said to him: Son, your father also became sonless, and he prayed to hundreds of thousands of gods for a son. But he had neither a son nor a daughter. Then he went to Nyagrodha and prayed to Nyagrodha, and then you were born. Therefore, you are named Nyagrodha. If you also have no son, do just as he did. Then the Brahmin, like a great Sala tree, went to Nyagrodha Galava, and after arriving, he had the area near the Nyagrodha tree swept and cleaned, filled it with incense, flowers, and perfumes, and had banners and flags raised. Then he gave food to eight hundred Brahmins, dressed them in large pieces of cloth, and then prayed to the deity residing in the tree: Please grant me the joy of finding a son. If I have a son, I will make immeasurable offerings to you like this every year. If I do not have one, I will split this tree, even if only the roots remain, and cut it into pieces, chop it every morning, dry it in the wind and sun, and burn it with fire. After burning it, I will scatter the ashes in the great wind or pour them into the swift great river. That deity is also of little power, so when prayed to, he is pleased, happy, very happy, and full of strength.
