At that time, they reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, starting from "this happened," made teachings up to the establishment of the precepts. Furthermore, if any bhikkhuni knowingly causes a woman suffering from grief to be extremely distressed, it is a downfall. Furthermore, who is called "any"? It is the coarse delight woman. What is called "knowingly"? It is when oneself or another has spoken. What is called "suffering from grief"? It is separation from beloved relatives and one's own people. What is called "extremely distressed"? It is in this Dharma and Vinaya. What is called "it is a downfall"? It is as before. Then, how does one fall into downfall? A bhikkhuni, as long as she knowingly causes a woman suffering from grief to be extremely distressed, will completely fall into downfall. The fourth of the seventeenth downfall is complete. The introduction is in Shravasti. When the bhikkhunis ordained them in such a way, they (said): We, co-residents and close residents, do not know how to fully accomplish the upasampada, so the Blessed One taught: For those who have been householders for ten years, and for young women who are eighteen years old, give the precepts of the six dharmas and the six dharmas in accordance for two years. They did not know what the six dharmas were, and what the six dharmas in accordance were, so the Blessed One taught: Do not walk alone on the road, Do not cross the river to the other shore, Do not touch a man, Do not sit with a man, Do not be a matchmaker, Do not hide faults. These are called the six dharmas. What are the six dharmas in accordance? Do not take gold, Do not do wool work, Do not dig the earth, Do not cut the green grass, Do not eat what is not given, Do not eat what is stored. These six dharmas are called the six dharmas in accordance. After studying for two years, give the precepts of brahmacharya near-dwelling, and then she can fully accomplish the upasampada. Then, the coarse delight woman did not ask about the six dharmas and the six dharmas in accordance for two years, and then she fully accomplished the upasampada, so the bhikkhus with little meaning

At the time when the nuns were scolding, they reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," proceeded to establish the precept. Furthermore, if any nun knowingly ordains someone who has not studied the six dharmas and the six that accord with them for two years, she commits a downfall. The "any" refers to: Pūrṇānandā. "Knowingly" refers to: having been spoken by oneself or another. "The six dharmas and the six that accord with them" refers to: as previously stated. "Without studying for two years" refers to: this precept of becoming a nun. "Commits a downfall" refers to: as before. So, how does one commit a downfall? If a nun, even slightly, does not request the precepts of the six dharmas and the six that accord with them for two years, and ordains them, then all of them will commit a downfall. The summary of the seventeenth downfall verse is complete. The summarized verses are: The precept and one year, the sangha and the five of concealment, near peace, household, nine kinds, long, arm and laywoman, asking without distinguishing the occasion, do not go to defecate alone. The verses are: The six dharmas and learning, and the household not giving, if they give me clothes, afterwards you are not happy. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. Then, Pūrṇānandā and the laywomen who lived together, after studying the six dharmas and the six that accord with them for two years, she did not let them be ordained. To this, the nuns said: Holy mother, you have had them study, why do you not let them be ordained? She said: These people said to me, Pūrṇānandā lets them be ordained without studying, so I thought, for the time being, it is very necessary to study. At the time of saying this, they reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," proceeded to establish the precept. Furthermore, if any nun knowingly, after studying the six dharmas and the six that accord with them for two years, does not let them be ordained

That is, a Patayantika. Furthermore, what is meant by "who"? It refers to Sthūlanandā. What is meant by "knowingly"? It means having been spoken by oneself or by another. What is meant by "having learned"? It refers to the training to become a Bhikṣuṇī. What is meant by "if not fully ordained"? It means by the four karmas. "A Patayantika" means as before. How does one become subject to a Patayantika? A Bhikṣuṇī, knowing a little, having trained for two years, and extending it beyond that, if she does not fully ordain her, in all cases it becomes a Patayantika. The first of the eighteen Patayantikas is complete. The story begins in Śrāvastī. Then, Sthūlanandā, having arranged her affairs in the morning, entered the house of a certain householder. There, a woman was arguing with her husband, and she said, "Why are you sitting unhappily?" She explained the situation in detail. Then, Sthūlanandā said to the woman, "Why don't you go forth?" She said, "Who would ordain me?" She said, "I will do it." Soon after, she ordained her. After that, the husband came and asked the neighbors, "Where has my wife gone?" They said, "Sthūlanandā has ordained her." Then, that householder went to where Sthūlanandā was, and having arrived, said to Sthūlanandā, "Reverend Mother, who ordained my wife?" Sthūlanandā said, "I did." Then, the householder said, "Reverend Mother, you should not have ordained her without the husband's permission." Having said that, the householder left angrily. Some Bhikṣuṇīs of few desires began to reproach her. At that time, they reported it to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, starting from this incident, established the precept: Furthermore, if any Bhikṣuṇī knowingly ordains someone without the husband's permission, it is a Patayantika. Furthermore, what is meant by "who"? It refers to Sthūlanandā. What is meant by "knowingly"? It means having been spoken by oneself or by another. "Husband" means
