Unseen, unheard. Then, when that householder engaged in sexual activity with his wife, he made an unpleasant noise. A young, ordained bhikshuni heard it and laughed. Then the householder said to his wife, "Who is that?" She said, "It's a bhikshuni." The householder, hearing this, became angry and said, "Why do you give shelter to those who mock the world?" Saying this, he became angry and threw them out at midnight, and they prayed. From "..." to "At that time, they reported to the Blessed One." Then the Blessed One, from "This happened..." to "made the establishment of the training," said: "If any bhikshuni, without the permission of the householder, stays overnight in a house, it is a downfall." "Again, who" refers to this Dharma. "Without the permission of the weaver's householder, in the house" means in the weaver's house. "Staying overnight" means sleeping. "It is a downfall" means as before. So, how does one become subject to a downfall? If a bhikshuni, even slightly, without the permission of the householder, stays overnight in a house, she will be subject to a downfall in all cases. The summary of the twelfth verse of downfall is complete. Verse: Knowing they dwell before, Attending to the sick, Not expelling from the summer house, Not on one couch and mattress. The incident occurred in Shravasti. At that time, Thulla Nandā was wandering and entered a householder's house. There were also bhikshunis who had been dwelling there before. They did not treat her with worldly customs, and she cleverly drove them out of the house. Those bhikshunis with few desires then reproached her, and at that time, they reported to the Blessed One. Then the Blessed One, from "This happened..." to "made the establishment of the training," said: "If any bhikshuni, knowing that bhikshunis have been dwelling there before, comes after them and drives them out of the house, it is a downfall." "Again, who" refers to Thulla Nandā. "Dwelling before" means dwelling from the beginning. "Knowing

"Is" refers to: what is said by oneself or by others. "Bhikkhunis" refers to: these Dharma holders. "Coming after that" refers to: other times. "Expelling from home" refers to: from the residence. "Is a Patayantika" refers to: the same as before. So how does one become a Patayantika? If a bhikkhuni even slightly expels bhikkhunis who have previously settled from their homes, then all of them will become Patayantika. The first of the thirteen Patayantikas is complete. The beginning is in Shravasti. At that time, the coarse joyful mother, living together in harmony, with attendants closely serving, did not provide service when they were sick. When those who were helpless suffered improperly, those bhikkhunis with few affairs rebuked them, and reported to the Blessed One. After that, the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," made it up to "Establishing the training." Also, whichever bhikkhuni lives together in harmony, with attendants closely serving, and does not provide service when they are sick, it is a Patayantika. "Also, whichever" refers to the coarse joyful mother. "Living together in harmony, with attendants closely serving" refers to: having ordained and settled. "When sick" refers to: being afflicted by illness. "Not providing service" refers to: with fundamental medicines, etc. "Is a Patayantika" refers to: the same as before. So how does one become a Patayantika? If a bhikkhuni even slightly surrounds closely serving, and does not provide service when they are sick, then all of them will become Patayantika. The second of the thirteen Patayantikas is complete. The beginning is in Shravasti. After that, the coarse joyful mother thought: Which bhikkhuni should I expel from this summer retreat? She thought: The great mother of beings is a renunciate, possessing a large retinue. The Dharma-giving mother is also a reciter, possessing a large retinue. Gautami is small and thin, and has few affairs, I should expel the small Gautami, she thought. After that, the coarse joyful mother in the morning, after talking about food, put on her skirt in the morning, fully dressed and left. When the small and thin Gautami was persuading those bhikkhunis towards the side of virtue
