Went to his presence and asked: How do you eliminate afflictions during that time? You are a renunciate, you shouldn't ask, from "shouldn't ask" to "because holding a bamboo tube." Then, Spomgamo went to the nun Lotus Woman and asked: Nun, if Great Belly King goes to another place, how do you eliminate afflictions during that time? She said: You are a renunciate, what are you asking, from "what are you asking" to "because holding a bamboo tube." Then, Spomgamo went to the bamboo tube maker, bought a bamboo tube and held it, then came to the summer house, tied it to the heel of her foot at night, and eliminated afflictions, then the summer house caught fire. Then, Spomgamo panicked and came down from the ladder naked, making a "kro kro" sound, and the crowd laughed, from "the crowd laughed" to "she said: ask mother, ask sister, ask daughter." Then, when some nuns with few desires blamed her, they reported to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, from the beginning of this incident to the establishment of the precepts, did these things. Also, any nun who holds a bamboo tube commits a downfall. Also, who, refers to Spomgamo. Holding, refers to made from bamboo tube. Holding, refers to oneself. Committing a downfall, refers to the same as before. So, how does one commit a downfall? As long as a nun slightly holds a bamboo tube, she will commit a downfall in all ways. The monks became doubtful, from "the monks became doubtful" to "Venerable Spomgamo made many people laugh, please see." The Blessed One taught: Monks, not only now, but in the past, Spomgamo also made many people laugh, listen. Monks, in the past, in the city of Varanasi (ancient Indian city, now Benares) there was a king named Brahma who ruled.

Let's begin. After some time, a Brahmin took a daughter of a local Brahmin as his wife, from this point until the Brahmin's daughter could not bear that Brahmin anymore. In order to be sent to her father-in-law's house, that daughter rode on a donkey and went to her father's house. After some time, the daughter asked, and he also spoke. From this point until when the daughter asked, that Brahmin started sleeping as if speaking normally. From this point, the Brahmin, wanting a clean sound, went to fetch water, and after some time, the sound of the water jar shaking startled the donkey. Because the donkey was startled, that daughter entered the city in that disheveled state, causing the people to burst into laughter. Then, that Brahmin at that time spoke in verse: The sound of the water jar shaking, ah, the donkey was startled, because of the deeds of this woman without a daughter, I am also ashamed here. Monks, what do you think? Who is that Brahmin's daughter? It is this Sthūlanandā, from this point until it is the same in the past and present. The second of the twelfth pārājika ends. The origin of the story is in Śrāvastī. Then, many wives of householders requested Sthūlanandā, saying: Holy mother, please teach the Dharma. She replied: Prepare a seat. Those people prepared a seat for her. She sat on the prepared seat, looked at the wall, and began to explain, holding a long sutra. Then, the Brahmins and those wives of householders thought: The work of the nuns is only to read and memorize, and our own household affairs will be neglected. Thinking this, they left. The nun who followed behind said: Holy mother, to whom are you teaching the Dharma? She replied: To the Brahmins and the wives of householders. They left because they were tired. From this point until Sthūlanandā also abandoned the seat and left. Those who took the seat without permission were accused of stealing. The Brahmins and the wives of householders began to complain, and this matter was reported to the Blessed One.

Then, the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," proceeded until the establishment of the precept. Furthermore, if a bhikkhuni, while teaching the Dharma, leaves without entrusting the seat to a layperson, it is a patayantika. Here, "again, who" refers to Thullananda. "Without entrusting the seat" means without entrusting it to the owner. "Leaves" means goes away. "It is a patayantika" means it is the same as before. Then, how does one commit a patayantika? As long as a bhikkhuni leaves without entrusting the seat to the owner even a little, she will commit a patayantika in all cases. The third of the twelfth patayantikas is complete. The origin is in Shravasti. At that time, the local custom in the central region was that the seats in the homes of Brahmins and householders were not rough. A certain Brahmin had set up a seat and placed a guardian there. Thullananda also entered that house for alms. She said, "Woman with good marks, please give alms." Then, that woman said, "Venerable one, this is the seat guardian. She will guard it. You go and bring the alms." That woman also entered the house for alms, and Thullananda sat on the Brahmin's seat. When that Brahmin came and saw Thullananda sitting on that seat, he reviled her. At that time, they reported this matter to the Blessed One. Then, the Blessed One, starting from "This happened," proceeded until the establishment of the precept. Furthermore, if a bhikkhuni sits on a seat inside a house without permission, it is a patayantika. Here, "again, who" refers to Thullananda. "Without permission" means without consulting the householder. "Sitting in the house, sitting on a layperson's seat" means sitting. "It is a patayantika" means it is the same as before. Then, how does one commit a patayantika? As long as a bhikkhuni sits on a layperson's seat without permission even a little, she will commit a patayantika in all cases. The fourth of the twelfth patayantikas is complete. The origin is in Shravasti. At that time, many bhikkhunis were wandering and stayed overnight in the house of a weaver. Afterwards, it became dark, and when the householder came, he did not recognize those bhikkhunis.
