If she speaks thus and the robe is made, it is an offense entailing forfeiture. For the sake of a bhikkhuni, if a king, a great minister, a brahmin, a householder, a townsperson, a villager, a wealthy person, a merchant, or a captain sends the price of cloth into the hand of a messenger, and then that messenger takes the price of cloth and goes to the bhikkhuni, and says to the bhikkhuni, 'Reverend Mother, please be informed, so-and-so king, great minister, brahmin, householder, townsperson, villager, wealthy person, merchant, or captain has sent these prices of cloth for you. Reverend Mother, for the sake of compassion, please accept them.' If he says this, the bhikkhuni should say to the messenger, 'Venerable messenger, bhikkhunis are not allowed to accept the price of cloth, but we will accept a suitable robe if we obtain it in due time.' If the messenger says to the bhikkhuni, 'Are there any who manage the affairs of the Reverend Mothers? Are there any who take the instructions of the Reverend Mothers?' If the bhikkhuni who wants the robe should indicate to the messenger, 'This one manages the affairs of the bhikkhunis, this one takes the instructions of the bhikkhunis.' One may indicate the monastery or the upasaka who manages affairs.
