B. Among those with great power, like this, the bhikkhuni Utpalavarna (Lotus-colored) is the best. The monks, having arisen with doubts, in order to dispel all doubts, asked the Blessed One, the Buddha: "Venerable one, what deeds did Utpalavarna do, that her eyes are like lotuses, possessing the fragrance of lotuses, like the color of lotus stamens? What deeds did she do, that she is not lacking in men, and having gone forth in the Blessed One's teachings, having abandoned all defilements, she directly realized the state of an Arhat? What deeds did she do, that she was shown to be the foremost among the nuns who are great in magical power and great in strength?" The Blessed One spoke: "Monks, Utpalavarna herself obtained the collection of deeds, completely transformed the conditions, dwelt near like a light, and did and accumulated things that would not be devoured by demons, therefore, how could others individually experience the deeds done and accumulated by Utpalavarna herself? Monks, deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external earth element, nor will they ripen in the water element, nor will they ripen in the fire element, nor will they ripen in the wind element. But thus, good and bad deeds done and accumulated will ripen in the aggregates, elements, and sense bases that are grasped. Deeds, even after hundreds of thousands of kalpas, will not be lost; when the assembly and time are found, they will become fruits for embodied beings. Monks, in the past, in a certain mountain cliff, there lived a householder who took a wife from the same lineage, and he played with her, rejoiced, and enjoyed pleasure. At another time, he took goods and went to another country. His wife, disturbed by the afflictions of fine clothes and food, saw other men entering and leaving a prostitute's house not far from her, and she thought: 'This woman has done meritorious deeds, so she is not lacking in men. What means do I have to not lack men?' As she was thinking this, a naked female ascetic came and said to her: Offer..."

Then, what method is there to ensure that whatever a sister thinks or does will be accomplished? She said, 'Sister, she has an ordained brother who is a great accomplished ascetic. Give him food and receive his blessings, and whatever you think or do will be accomplished.' She said, 'Sister, if that is the case, then go and invite that great ascetic to her house to receive food.' So she invited him to receive food. The housewife also prepared food and adorned her hands with lotuses and the like. Because the naked ascetics eat food at any time, and also at inappropriate times, it took a long time. In times when Buddhas do not appear, those who have compassion for the lowly and the poor, who delight in remote dwellings, and who, like rhinoceroses, alone become worthy of offerings in the world, appear in the world. Just as a solitary Buddha was wandering, he went to that mountain rock, and in the early morning, having put on his lower garment, and carrying his bowl and Dharma robes, he entered that house to go for alms. The housewife, seeing that he was beautiful in body and beautiful in mind, thought, 'This must be a great accomplished ascetic, I should offer him food.' So she satisfied him with food, and also offered him lotuses and the like. Those great ascetics do not teach the Dharma with words, but teach the Dharma with their bodies, so that solitary Buddha, having performed the act of eating, out of compassion for her, like the king of swans spreading his wings, manifestly rose into the sky above, and began to perform miracles of burning, shining, raining, and producing lightning. Because ordinary people quickly place their faith in miracles, the housewife, with reverence and respect, prostrated to his two feet and prayed, 'By the root of virtue of offering to such a worthy object of offering, may I be free from poverty caused by men, and may I also obtain such qualities that are even more excellent than this, that please the teacher and do not displease the teacher.'
